Blazers Tried to Get Miles Back

... As Krollb has pointed out in the fanshot sidebar, A-Woj is now reporting that before the Blazers sent that infamous e-mail they tried to claim Darius Miles off of waivers. They were blocked by the league who saw this as an attempt to circumvent cap rules. ...

Detroit Bad Boys: “I’m not going to pretend that people don’t have egos, and spending too much time analyzing Rip’s response distracts from the real question: should Rip be the one who leaves the starting lineup in the first place? Sure, the Pistons have won some games in Rip’s absence, but that’s not to say they’ve won because of his absence. Allen Iverson hasn’t had a 50% shooting night in 10 games, shooting 37.5% in that span. Rip, on the other hand, shot 51% for the entire month of December (or, more accurately, in 11 of the 14 games he appeared in). This stat has been bandied around endlessly in the DBB comments (it’s practically been Mike Payne’s ...

Blazers Lose the Darius Miles Salary Cap Game
The Sporting Blog —
Okay, yet another wrinkle in the Darius Miles telenovela. According to the latest from Adrian W. at Yahoo!, the Blazers tried to grab Miles for themselves before resorting to the now-infamous letter of intimidation. I know from fantasy basketball experience that you can't do this. But in the real world, the rejection of Portland's waivers claim was a little more dramatic, and tricky: ...

Countless basketball fans have asked me why the Blazers didn't try to claim Darius Miles off waivers. In theory, Portland could have signed him, and then kept him on the bench through the end of the season, kept him from playing in ten games, and thus preserved their cap space for next summer. My answer, time and again, was that I was quite certain the league would not allow that. They had intimated various ways that they wouldn't put up with shenanigans -- players would be signed to play, not to monkey with the CBA. (That attitude would protect the Blazers, in other settings.) And now, reports are Portland tried exactly that, and the League stepped ...
More Blazers-Miles Info Released and it's Ugly
Blaze of Love —
Yahoo Sports is dedicating its life to making the Portland Trail Blazers look bad. Just days after "the email", YS is now reporting that the Blazers had tried to pick up Miles off of waivers to obviously stash him aside, not allowing him to fulfill that 10 game quota.
Before the Portland Trail Blazers resorted to a threatening email to frighten rival NBA teams from signing Darius Miles, team officials late last week made a brazen bid to claim the forward off waivers only to be stopped by the league, multiple front-office sources told Yahoo! Sports. This is just getting dirtier and grimier every damn day. Kevin ...
The Blazers Tried Everything To Not Pay Miles
Hooped Up —
The Portland Trail Blazers front office is fast becoming Cobra headquarters and Larry Miller might as well be Cobra Commander. These guys tried everything to not pay Darius Miles! COBRA!!!
“Before the Portland Trail Blazers resorted to a threatening email to frighten rival NBA teams from signing Darius Miles, team officials late last week made a brazen bid to claim the forward off waivers only to be stopped by the league, multiple front-office sources told Yahoo! Sports. So determined to salvage the salary cap space that would come with the foiling of Miles’ comeback from a devastating knee injury, Portland president Larry ...
Another Darius Miles Update, unfortunately
Deceptively Quick —
I suppose you have heard by now, but I feel some obligation to mention the latest on Miles-gate: Before the Portland Trail Blazers resorted to a threatening email to frighten rival NBA teams from signing Darius Miles, team officials late last week made a brazen bid to claim the forward off waivers only to be stopped by the league, multiple front-office sources told Yahoo! Sports. So how fine is the line between a crafty, confident front office and one that feels it can bend and break rules to get what it wants? The League Office could have the final say on which side the Blazers fall on this particular series of unfortunate ...
Today's Poll -- Should The Team Have Owned Their Waiver Claim?
Blazersedge —
... Man, this latest legal chapter is surreal: the Blazers really tried to claim Miles off waivers? While I am surprised that the team has the cojones to do this, I think this news helps further the team's position put forward last Friday: "we will do anything to protect our team." Larry Miller's memo certainly makes more sense now, given the context in which it was sent. The waiver claim was denied and the team felt like it had absolutely no other options. It's still strange but it is certainly consistent. ...
LeBron on the Miles/Portland Saga

Everyone agrees that the Blazers handled this Darius Miles thing about as poorly as humanly possible.
Not only did they threaten the rest of the League with legal action should someone else sign Miles, but it was also recently reported that they tried to snag the forward off waivers with the intent being to leave him stranded on the bench so as not to adversely affect their salary cap (a move that the NBA blocked.)
Prior to Cleveland facing off against Miles and the Grizzlies last night in Memphis, LeBron James addressed the ...
