by Lang Whitaker So I got an email tonight from Dan Steinberg, one of my main men over at the Washington Post. Dan sent along a link to this post over at his DC Sports Bog, detailing the latest trick up Drew Gooden’s sleeve: A Beard-Growing Championship. After prattling on about Gilbert being injured or scoring or being wacky or something, blah blah blah, DeShawn Stevenson was ... [link]

Published 11/14/2007 by Dan Steinberg at D.C. Sports Bog
Beard Challenge '07: Drew Gooden Responds I've encouraged every out-of-town NBA reporter I know (a group that boasts about three members) to help provide the world with the most extensive beard-growing coverage possible. Luckily, SLAM's Lang Whitaker has already stepped up by getting an e-mailed comment from Drew Gooden , concerning his challenge with DeShawn Stevenson. Writes Gooden: I already lost to him in a High School State Championship, but beat him in last year’s Playoffs. This one would put me ahead 2-1 when I win!” D Good 90 Well, it's not exactly John Paul Jones ...

No one does it better than Clyde. Aside from the whole Wizards winning, easily the best storyline this season has to be the ongoing bet between DeShawn Stevenson and Drew Gooden over who can go longer without shaving which has unlimited comedic potential.  SLAM is taking Gooden in this gruffy battle and of course Bog and Fear the Beard are siding with Mister 50.  Before you place your bets in this epic wager, let's take a look at the tale of the tape: Education ...

... Gooden won the individual battle, and the Cavs won the overall war, 121-85. That’s a molly-whopping. And to add insult to injury, Gooden’s beard is WAY longer than DeShawn’s — the two have a bet to see who can go the longest without shaving. If size mattered, Airhead would be the runaway champion. ...
