    this was the mom's reasoning - pathetic...  what about the other "parent's" that also work - she is the "only" mom that works - excuse the rest of the world that has to juggle parenthood and a full-time job...  she should be ashamed to give this as a reason.  she signed her son up and knew the rules before she signed - so there should be "NO" excuses when it comes to your child and I'm sure she had advance notification...
