Lord Stanley's Blog - Canes might look for enforcer Links5
The NHL’s trade freeze lifts at midnight tonight, and the Canes are keeping their ears open.“In the new system and the way things are now, it’s hard to project if you’re ever close to anything or not,” Canes GM Jim Rutherford said. “So, we continue to look at things. I think the one area, and we’ve talked about this the first half of the season, but it becomes more obvious now — is maybe an ... [link]

Hurricanes possibly seeking an enforcer
Published 12/27/2007 by Matt Saler at On the Wings
After the Colton Orr hit on Carolina forward Matt Cullen last night, the Hurricanes have expressed an interest in acquiring an enforcer. You may be thinking, “This is a Wings blog. Why is this relevant?” Well, when Henrik Zetterberg, Kirk Maltby, and Tomas Holmstrom return to the lineup, the team will be one over the 23-man roster limit. At that point, they’ll have to send someone down to Grand Rapids and the short list of candidates pretty much consists of Aaron Downey. “So what?” you say. “That’s at least two weeks from now. The holiday roster freeze will thaw out at midnight tonight, and Carolina will look for free agents who might fall under the umbrella of "enforcer with skill". Good luck with that. Rachel Carter of the N&O; has the story on that, which can be summed up with JR's quote: ...

Help Wanted: Visigoth who can skate
Published 12/28/2007 by CasonBlog at CasonBlog
This from Lord Stanley's Blog yesterday in Lord Stanley's Blog yesterday, JR seems to be mulling the idea of bringing in an enforcer. I hate the idea. Jesse Boulerice delivered the most memorable goal from the 2002 (?) season, but little else. Darren Langdon was a capable brawler and a solid clubhouse guy, but I dismiss the idea that you have to put Grendel on your 4th line to make other squads behave. The Canes really need to get physical from the outset. They need to hit the bully in the mouth before the bully can pick and chose his time ...
