Managers of the Year Manage to Manage Men Manageably
Walkoff Walk —
... I guess my 260 write-in votes for John McLaren and Dusty Baker got lost in the mail. I can think of no other explanation as to why Joe Maddon and Lou Piniella just got named Manager of the Year in their respective leagues. The BBWAA rewarded Maddon for taking his underdog Tampa Bay Rays to the top of the American League East and Piniella for leading the Chicago Cubs to the best regular season record in the National League and the Cubs best record in 63 years. ...

LOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!
Clubhouse Cancer —
The Chicago Cubs’ Sweet Lou Piniella won his third Manager of the Year award on Wednesday, kicking the shit out of that decrepit old man Charlie Manuel in the process. Now, let’s turn our attention to the 2009 daily lineup, Lou. The Riot at the top, D Lee hitting second and Clubhouse Cancer Soriano third. Also, Mark DeRosa is your everyday second ...
Tampa Bay Connection: Lou Pinella and Joe Maddon Named Managers of the Year
FanHouse —
by Matt Snyder Filed under: Cubs, Rays, AL East, NL Central, MLB AwardsMuch like the Cubs and Rays Rookies of the Year, the two teams took the Manager of the Year honor in each respective league with very little question. The only realistic candidate in either league, other than winners Joe Maddon and Lou Pinella, was Charlie Manuel of the Phillies, but the award is a regular season award. During the course of the regular season, Lou Pinella led his Cubbies to the most victories the franchise has had since 1945, securing the number one NL seed with ease for the postseason. Of ...

Ah, what a good day here at MLJ. We had a full days worth of posts today, capped off by Clown showing us a picture from his latest pool party. Prior to that, Fetch told us about some WAQ shit. He also linked to a picture of an underage girl. That’s our Fetch. Clown introduce us to the new ...
Piniella, Maddon Named Managers of the Year
Sliding Into Home: A Yankees Blog —
From MLB.com: Joe Maddon and the man he succeeded as Tampa Bay manager, Lou Piniella, were named Managers of the Year in the American League and National League, respectively, by the Baseball Writers' Association of America announced Wednesday afternoon. Both were recognized for leading their teams to 2008 glory, with Maddon's Rays reaching a destination that remained out of the reach of Piniella's Cubs for a 63rd straight year -- the World Series. "It is truly an honor to receive this award," Maddon said on a conference call from Rome, where news of ...
The best team to not win a damn thing
Siberian Baseball —
Try as I might, it's been pretty difficult to ignore the Cubs' most recent post-season belly flop as the hardware is passed out this fall. Even with the team e-mailing me updates of sales on MLB.com and other chatter, it was impossible to miss e-mails about Geovany Soto winning Rookie of the Year and Lou Piniella taking home the manager of the year honors. Great news for a team that took a hefty payroll and plenty of natural talent and turned it into another lifeless post-season. Not that I think that either guy wouldn't trade their hardware in for the World Series trophy, but it's tough to get excited for this. Joe Maddon won the AL ...
