The Morning Tailgate
STLSportsMag —
To echo the sentiments of Mr. Sebek yesterday, it really is a boring time in St. Louis sports. As of today, our only two big teams in season are Mizzou and the Rams and there’s only so much you can talk about the Rams and the Tigers from Monday-Friday. I’ve read so much about this weekend’s MU-OSU game that I think I can probably tell you what Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant’s is having for breakfast on Saturday.
Needless to say, it’s a rough transition for St. Louisans who are used to being able to follow the day-to-day activity of the Cardinals through the regular season and typically the postseason. ...
Texas v. Missouri
HeismanPundit.com —
This game could end up being the game upon which this year’s Heisman turns.
If Texas wins, then Colt McCoy (who is on this week’s cover of Sports Illustrated) will have led his team to back-to-back wins over highly-ranked, highly-regarded foes, both of whom have Heisman candidates of their own. He will have guided his team halfway through a very difficult four game gauntlet. The power of his candidacy will be such that he should be able to absorb a loss down the road and still remain the front runner.
If Missouri wins, then Chase Daniel (who is on this week’s cover of ESPN The Magazine) ...
Chase Daniel's Girlfriend
Double Extra Point - A Nebraska Cornhuskers Blog —
[image] [image] From the Missourian: “I hear the rumors,” (Blaire) Vandiver said. “It gets old. The people who matter know what kind of relationship we have.” And that relationship didn't start how you might assume. “I wanted nothing to do with him for the first three months,” she said. Vandiver, who is from Richmond, Mo., and is a year younger than Daniel, met him in June 2007 through a mutual friend. “My roommate told me Chase Daniel was coming over, and I was like, ‘Cool. I don’t care,’” Vandiver said. The quarterback came up to Vandiver’s room, where she was doing sit-ups on the floor. "I wasn't wearing makeup, and I had sweats on," ...
Chase Daniel's Girlfriend Blaire Vandiver
FanIQ Blog —
Chase Daniel finished off his college career last night with a win over Northwestern in the Alamo Bowl. And while his performance wasn't pretty (three picks), the good news is that his girlfriend is. In fact, although Sam Bradford and Colt McCoy's girlfriends got some attention this year, Daniel may in fact have done better than either one of them, even though he looks like a squashed version of Ben Roethlisberger. ...
Drafting More Than Beer v2.0 – Part One
Football Blog —
We have finally reached that oasis in the desert of the NFL offseason. The one week where our NFL teams take a place alongside baseball and basketball at the top of Sportscenter and conversations around the coffee machine (does anyone really have a water cooler anymore?). For one week we again make projections, institute orders that will be ignored by our teams and ultimately spend the weekend cheering or cursing the decisions they make. That’s right, we are at draft week.
In honor of draft week, we here at PFB are back with our second annual draft spectacular, where we look at the needs of each team and come up with who each ...
Bears sign Mizzou QB Chase Patton (Matt Cassel v2.0)
Windy City Gridiron —
... year. Chase Patton (No, not my man Chase Holbrook) was Chase Daniel's backup at Mizzou, and has been talked about as being more NFL ready than Daniel.
Patton has been invited to compete this weekend at rookie camp. With the QB depth chart behind Jay Cutler, only being occupied by two other undrafted free agents, Caleb Hanie and Brett Basanez, Patton has a very good shot to land the 3rd string job.
The 6'4" 230 pound QB has been touted in a feature article by ESPN Magazine as possible Matt Cassel-type.
...
Chicago Bears Sign Missouri’s Chase… Patton?
The Critical Fanatic —
I know what you’re thinking. Jerry Angelo is so dumb, he actually requested the free agent services of the wrong Missouri QB Chase.
A very believable scenario, but in fact, the Bears have intentially signed free agent QB Chase Patton, Chase Daniel’s backup.
Despite my fervent college football watching, I’ve never ...
Bears Sign Mizzou Backup QB Chase Patton
MOUTHPIECE Blog // A Chicago-Addled Sports Blog —
Remember how ESPN the Magazine put both Mizzou quarterbacks on its cover back in the fall, and the story focused on backup Chase Patton being a better pro prospect than Chase Daniel, even though Chase Daniel was doing work up and down the Tigers’ opponents and was a Heisman candidate?
Here’s the fun opening grafs:
Here’s a prediction for the 2012 NFL season: Three weeks in, a superstar quarterback blows out his knee. He’s lost for the year. Crushed fans write off their team because the backup, a 2009 seventh-rounder out of Missouri named Chase, has hardly played. And in fact, he starts out ...
Quick Thoughts on a Few Bears UFAs
Gear Up For Sports —
As the last of the smoke clears from the whirlwind that is the NFL draft, things are calming down a bit. Rosters are starting to shape up, rookies are preparing for minicamp, GMs are no longer sleeping in their offices… It’s the last bit of calm before training camp starts up. And yes, I’m aware that draft picks are the sexy rookies, but undrafted free agents have always been really intriguing to me. These are guys that, because they get to choose which team they sign with, can enter into a situation they deem best for themselves. It’s kind of the capitalist approach to acquiring college players. But I digress… let’s ...
