Arroyo headed to Europe...
Rip City Project | A Portland Trailblazers blog —
ESPN.com is reporting that Carlos Arroyo has signed a deal with Israeli team Maccabi Tel-Aviv. It's a 3 year deal worth $15 million with a chance to opt-out every summer. The telling sign is that Maccabi Tel-Aviv is making this move as a European 'giant'. Arroyo's career peaked in his second year in Utah when he started 71 games and averaged 10 and 5. The guy was a fantasy sleeper I remember that much. He promptly worked his way into Jerry Sloan's doghouse and that was the end of Arroyo in Utah. He then spent time in Detroit and Orlando as an inconsistent ...
Two former Detroit Piston players sign with Maccabi
Full-Court Press - A Detroit Pistons Blog —
The Pistons signed Will Bynum away from Maccabi, while the NBA loses another established player to a team overseas as Carlos Arroyo signed a 3-year contract to play for the Israeli team, joining another former Piston. August 3, ESPN: Arroyo's agent, Leon Rose, confirmed the signing to ESPN.com on Sunday night after Maccabi Tel-Aviv coach Effy Birenboim appeared on the country's national sports network (Sport5) to tout what is believed to be the richest transaction in Maccabi's history. Sources in Israel said Arroyo will receive an estimated $2.5 million net next season -- ...

Carlos Arroyo Is Today's Relatively Mediocre NBA Player Bolting Overseas
FanHouse —
... Marc Stein, who may or may not be omniscient (seriously, who sits around asking "You know what I haven't checked on in a while? Whether Carlos Arroyo is looking at an Israeli basketball offer. I should look into that. "?), reports that the former Orlando point guard has accepted a three year deal with Maccabi Tel Aviv, which will net him $2.5 million next year. Not exactly the wallet buster ...
If a Carlos Arroyo Goes to Europe, But Nobody Cares, Does He Make a Sound?
Hardwood Paroxysm —
In what might be the quietest European departure yet, Carlos Arroyo snagged a deal for around $5 million a year from Maccabi Tel-Aviv. But for all the ho-hum of Childress, the Machine, and Delonte, Arroyo's eurotrip makes the most sense. His career has been a series of "Let's throw this guy at the wall and see if he sticks!"-type scenarios, and nothing up to this point has worked particularly well. Except, you know, that Puerto Rican national team gig. I'm not saying that Arroyo should give up on the NBA entirely (or maybe I should say the NBA shouldn't ...

... ESPN's Marc Stein: "Sources in Israel said [Carlos] Arroyo will receive an estimated $2.5 million net next season -- roughly the equivalent of a $5 million NBA salary after taxes -- as part of a three-year contract. The deal includes an opt-out provision that will enable Arroyo to return to the NBA after each of the next two seasons if he chooses. Arroyo becomes the eighth player who worked in the NBA in 2007-08 to sign with a foreign club since free agency commenced July 1. But he's just the second -- along with former Atlanta Hawks swingman Josh ...

Arroyo to Israel
The Cowhide Globe —
Carlos Arroyo, former Jerry Sloan whipping boy, has signed a three-year deal with powerhouse club Maccabi Tel-Aviv. Arroyo joins a long list (8) of NBA players that have skipped town after last season to sign in Europe (I know, Israel isn't techinically in Europe, but just play along). ESPN's Mark Stein claims he's just the second player (after Childress) to establish himself in the NBA before bolting to Europe, but that's debateable: he averaged about 20 minutes per game last season, fewer minutes than Childress, Carlos Delfino, Juan Carlos Navarro and Bostjan ...

The Bobcats' Roster Mismanagement
Rufus on Fire —
... Oddly, there were perfectly reasonable backup point guards available for a pittance. Carlos Arroyo signed with Maccabi Tel Aviv, even though he'd played reasonably well as a backup point in Orlando. If they wanted a scoring presence off the bench, Salim Stoudamire was available until the Spurs gave him a shot, but they've since waived him. Of course, they waived him in large part because they already have Roger Mason, Jr., another free agent combo guard who was out there and has played point. Don't get me started on the many merits of Anthony Carter, who was a free agent this ...
