Excerpt from Press release (MLB.com): The national celebration of Roberto Clemente Day will take place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, FL prior to tomorrow night's game between the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays. Roberto Clemente Jr., son of Roberto Clemente, and Carlos Peña, the Rays' recipient of the Roberto Clemente Award, are scheduled to participate in a pre-game ceremony. Grandy not Tigers' Clemente Award nominee
The Grandy Report — First of all, please don't take this as being a knock on Magglio Ordonez or his charity work at home and abroad. I just can't understand, however, why Curtis isn't the Tigers' Roberto Clemente Award nominee. Considering his community work with Detroit-area public schools, Gloves for Kids, the RBI program, and his international travels as an ambassador for the game of baseball, I certainly think that he would be a deserving recipient of the award.
