Malcolm Kelly and Phillip Merling Links1
Really gotta be fast on this one - puck about to drop - but making more calls and two names to watch this weekend for the Skins are WR Malcolm Kelly and DE Phillip Merling, team sources said. The team was finalizing trips to Oklahoma and Clemson, respectively, to meet the players one more time before the draft, likely the final visits with players before the draft this weekend. Kelly bears particular attention. The Skins...Please click on the title to continue reading this entry. [link]

'Skins Could Draft Slow-Footed Malcolm Kelly to Replace No-Catching Brandon Lloyd
Published 4/22/2008 by Ryan Wilson at FanHouse
... Of course, it's pretty well established that I don't know what I'm talking about, so it makes perfect sense that the former Oklahoma star could very well be taken in Round 1. ...

2008 NFL Draft: 2nd Round Recap

About those predraft visits
Posted by ESPN.com's Mike Sando The private predraft visits teams schedule with players can reveal a team's interest in a player, or not. Some teams meet with players they expect to sign as free agents after the draft, keeping their distance from players they value more. The Dolphins drafted Phillip Merling today despite minimal contact with the defensive end. "I met with them at the ...
2008 NFL Draft 2nd Round Open Thread
5:38- Phillip Merling, DE, Clemson to the Miami Dolphins That is a good value for Dolphins.  Merling is another guy that I would have been happy with the Titans taking. 5:42- Donnie Avery, WR, Houston to the St. Louis Rams I would have bet someone a billion dollars that Avery would not have been the first receiver taken. 5:45- Devin Thomas, WR, Michigan State to the Washington Redskins ...
Remember the Dolphins
Posted by ESPN.com's Mike Sando The Dolphins' early signing of Jake Long removed some of the sizzle -- OK, all of the sizzle -- from their opening day of the draft. But the team's ability to pick up Phillip Merling at the top of the second round appears significant. It's always tough to project how well these players will perform, but some scouts thought Merling might go somewhere in the 20s ...
Duane Brown Is The Newest Texan?
Hmmmmm .  I get that the guy is allegedly a good fit for the zone blocking system , but in the first round?  With Brandon Flowers, Phillip Merling, and/or Kenny Phillips available?  Unless you're hooked up to a Smithiak Kool-Aid IV drip, this raises eyebrows. That said, remember Shake's sig line: We can be critical of the draft picks, but in the end we always support the new ...

Breaking Down the Picks: Round 2
Thankful that the first round finished in near record time, there's a lot more energy left to break down every second-round pick of the 2008 NFL draft: Dolphins take Phillip Merling at No. 32. So Miami didn't move Jason Taylor for a first-round pick after all, and after landing their franchise offensive tackle in Round 1, they get a great value in an edge pass rusher in Round 2. Merling ...
Second time around
The Phish Tank’s team of writers react to selection number 2, Phillip Merling. Sean: Phillip Merling was high up on the “Best Available” lists for a while now, so Miami made a pretty good selection here. But…it’s bittersweet. Taking a DE this high sure makes it seem like JT is out the door. There is a rumor that Miami may have already traded JT to Tampa for ...
A run on WRs
Posted by ESPN.com's Matt Mosley Giants fans were thrilled with the Kenny Phillips pick. They needed a safety, Phillips should be able to play immediately. He didn't have a great final season at Miami, but I think he'll actually be an upgrade for the Giants. The Dolphins added an edge rusher in Clemson's Phillip Merling. Some teams were scared off by his sports hernia, but I think he ...
Dolphins steal Merling at #32
With the thirty-second pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins have selected Phillip Merling, DE, Clemson. At pick number 32, this was a steal. Coming out of college as a junior, some scouts had the 6′5″, 280 Merling listed as one of the top 10 players in the entire class. Draft boards had him going as high as 17th overall. Merling’s signing could mean the plan is ...
The 2008 NFL Draft Day Open Thread -- 2nd Round
Time for the 2nd Round.  What will the Broncos do at #42?? #32 Miami Dolphins -- DE Phillip Merling, Clemson  Concerns about Merling's recovery from a sports hernia surgery dropped the talented ACC pass rusher out of the first round. With the first pick of the second round, however, the Dolphins added a big, physical defensive lineman that projects nicely outside to end in the ...
32. Miami Dolphins: Phillip Merling, Clemson
Clemson defensive end Phillip Merling was one of the big questions marks heading into today because while other top prospects spent the last three months working out for NFL scouts, Merling spent the last three months recovering from a sports hernia. How much money did that sports hernia cost him? I don't think he would have been drafted ahead of Florida defensive end Derrick Harvey in any ...
2008 NFL Draft: Open Thread 3
The Titans taking Chris Johnson at #24 was the biggest reach, by far. All-in-all, there were 10 trades ( 10!!! ) in the first round. The Chiefs had the best first round, easily. This is another open thread. Looks like Brian Brohm is the first pick in round 2 for the Dolphins. Scratch that, it's Phillip Merling.
Thank you Lord...
Kenny Phillips. I don't know what's better... a) The Jets sucking ass. b) The Giants being smart, and taking a play making safety. He will immediate compete to start with overrated Sammy Knight. Awesome. The Dolphins then select Phillip Merling. That is a great pick. He wasn't supposed fall this far, and he will add to a defense that is beginning to come together. Bill Parcells, smart guy.
I Hate Seattle...
Seriously, Can we just burn down Qwest Field? Anyway, They select Lawrence Jackson over Phillip Merling, and this is dumb. Why is Merling still on the Board?
Moving back makes sense for Seattle
Posted by ESPN.com's Mike Sando The Seahawks have to like their options at No. 25. Several of their top defensive players remain on the board, including Phillip Merling, Kentwan Balmer and Lawrence Campbell. They could take one of them here or trade back and take one of them later. This scenario sets up nicely for Seattle if the team can find a trading partner.
I <3 The Washington Redskins Fluff Piece...
ESPN is trying REALLY hard to make them America's team. Anyway, This pick should be a wide receiver. They said they don't want one in round one, but it should be. The other guy it could be is Phillip Merling. And...It's a trade. The Falcons....Is this the Chad Henne trade? I hope not. It's Sam Baker. A solid Pass protector, not a first round value though. It's a questionable pick. Mel's Grade ...
Redskins 2008 Draft Preview: So Many Options
Twas the day before the draft and well, I don’t think anyone has much of a feel of what is going to happen tomorrow.?? So lets take a gander at the options: 1.?? Package the 21 and Other Draft Picks to Acquire??a Number One ...
REDSKINS LOOK AT JORDY NELSON
It has been widely reported that the Washington Redskins’ top front office personnel worked out Clemson defensive end Phillip Merling and Oklahoma wide receiver Malcolm Kelly yesterday, but a league source tells PFT that the Redskins weren’t done after visiting those two. Per the source, team owner Daniel Snyder, vice president for football operations Vinny Cerrato [...]
Redskins Either Like Phillip Merling or Want Other Teams to Think They Like Phillip Merling
With less than 48 hours to go before the NFL draft, you can drive yourself crazy trying to divine the thought processes of the 32 NFL teams. So take this with the usual grain of salt: The entire Washington Redskins brain trust -- owner Dan Snyder, coach Jim Zorn, personnel man Vinny Ceratto -- traveled to the campus of Clemson today to watch the workout conducted by defensive end Phillip ...
