The Yankee Way
Never on Injured Reserve —
... in Alfredo Aceves in the eleventh inning of game three after David Robertson had only thrown eleven pitches and gotten two quick outs. Aceves imploded, allowing the game winning run to score. Yesterday, some would argue that leaving A.J. Burnett in the game to pitch the seventh inning was a mistake and the Angels ended up winning that one as well. But how big of a mistake will both of those decisions end up being if the Angels win both games in the Bronx this weekend? To quote New York Daily News reporter Jesse Spector, "after failing to guide a $200 million team to October ...
Friday Night Open Thread: If Yanks choke this away should Girardi be fired?
Sliding Into Home: A Yankees Blog —
Jesse Spector of the Daily News wrote about this today, and I think he has a point. Spector isn't saying the Yankees will blow it, but if they do he thinks Girardi should go. Besides the terrible managerial decisions he's made that have directly led to the Yanks losing two games this series Spector points out the historic aspect of this and how most teams don't recover from such choke jobs, especially not with the same manager at the helm. Here's more from Spector: ...
Getting Antsy In New York
Blak4rest: Sports, Media and Vegas —
... Joe Girardi has gotten plenty of criticisms over his pitching decisions (or lack of) during the AL playoffs. Jesse Spector says if the Yankees, who lead the ALCS 3-2, blow this series to the Angels, Girardi should be fired. You think? Only in New York. N.Y. Daily News

... How is that sequence even remotely defensible? I’ve been looking all day, and am still waiting for the dozens of articles question the choices Girardi made in that inning. Here’s one, from Jesse Spector, of the NY Daily News: ...
Should Girardi be fired if Yanks blow it?
Circling The Bases —
I hate off-days during the playoffs. It's mind-numbingly boring. It makes the mind wander. It makes otherwise rational people, like Jesse Spector of the Daily News, write articles like this : The Yankees will come home Saturday still leading the ALCS, 3-2, still one win away from returning to the World Series for the first time since 2003, still with Andy Pettitte and CC Sabathia lined up to pitch them there. But let's get this out of the way now, so it's not a reactionary thing if the Yankees lose their sixth and seventh consecutive games with the American League pennant ...
Girardi's quandry
SULLY BASEBALL —
... was dreadful in the post season prior to this year. There could be a pitchers duel… or a battle of the bullpens. So let’s say the Angels win a Game 6 started by Sabathia. They would have insane confidence going into Game 7… the Yankees would be pressing and the Game 7 pitching match up of John Lackey vs. Andy Pettitte would favor Los Angeles… or California… or Anaheim… or Los Angeles of Anaheim. And isn’t this over managing exactly what has Girardi in the crosshairs of the fan base’s ire? And if Sabathia DOES win Game 6 on Sunday, he would not be ...
How'd we get here: Fatalistic Yanks fans
It's About The Money - A New York Yankees Blog —
With the MSM already calling for Girardi's head before Game 6 even takes place, I'm left to wonder how we, as Yanks fans, came to be so fatalistic.
Taking a brief trip in the way-back machine, there was a sense of calm during the Yanks 1990's run to four titles. When we lost a game, even the opening two games, there wasn't the sense of panic that seems to now envelop those covering the team. I'll admit that this could just be a selective memory thing from me, but why are the media (and the blogosphere) so quick to bury the Yanks despite ...

With the MSM already calling for Girardi's head before Game 6 even takes place (and lunkheads like me questioning his decisions), I'm left to wonder how we, as Yanks fans, came to be so fatalistic. [I also wonder if it's merely the local media looking to ...
