... dark horse candidate to land Manny's services, but now they're clearly the prohibitive favorite. (A lot can happen in a day, huh?) Olney calls the conversations "serious" and explains that the deal is centered around either Jeremy Hermida or Josh Willingham and would include 2 other players (haven't heard exactly who they'd be, but Peabody native Jeff Allison's name has been linked to these trade talks in recent days). The talks have progressed so far, in fact, that Baseball Prospectus' John Perotto (relying on several solid sources) believes that the Sox are on ...

... Well, the Sox do have a much easier alternative – sign Barry Bonds to replace Manny’s big bat, bad attitude, poor fielding and base running at a fraction of the price. They would also get something back for the departing Ramirez (TO THE MARLINS?)without having to gamble on offering him arbitration. ...

Red Sox, Marlins on Verge of Manny Ramirez Trade
Published 7/30/2008 by Anthony (noreply@blogger.com) at MLB Rumors by MLBnewsonline.com
According to Baseball Prospectus and multiple other sources, the Red Sox are "on the verge" of trading Manny Ramirez to the Marlins for three players.  One of those players is believed to be highly regarded low-class A outfielder Mike Stanton, 18, who has hit 26 home runs this year.  Josh Willingham and Jeremy Hermida have also been mentioned today, so it is possible that one or both will be included in any deal. ...

Manny on Verge of Being a Fish
Published 7/30/2008 by Andrew Beaton at Hot Foot
As Rob Harding noted earlier on Hot Foot, the Red Sox and Marlins have been engaged in intense negotiations regarding disgruntled OF Manny Ramirez. According to John Perrotto of Baseball Prospectus, the two teams are on the verge of completing the deal.  The package includes three prospects, notably Mike Stanton.  Stanton is an 18 year old OF playing for the Class A Greensboro Grasshopers who is batting .275 with 26 HRs in 98 games.  What a shocker, seriously.  Does a deal like this force Omar’s hand? The Phillies got Joe Blanton, Fish are very close to ...

Is Manny Ramirez Close to Becoming a Marlin?
Published 7/31/2008 by TheBigLead at The Big Lead
... Manny Ramirez to the Marlins. While it might seem strange - nee, downright bizarre - that the defending champs would deal their most reliable and clutch right-handed bat while in the throes of a pennant race, Boston might be entering a four-team deal that reportedly involves Jason Bay (to the Sox), the Padres and the Pirates. That’s the word out of Miami from a nascent blogger whom we might throw a party for if his sources are accurate. The Palm Beach Post and Baseball Prospectus are on the case, as well.

... avoid universally-owned players here in Closing Time. But on trade deadline eve, that's just not reasonable. Manny Ramirez might soon be a Marlin according to Baseball Prospectus' Will Carroll. The deal would involve Jason Bay heading to Boston and Jeremy Hermida going to Pittsburgh. The Marlins would also get cash, per their usual. Unnamed prospects would go to both Florida and Pittsburgh. Those pieces are apparently still being negotiated. BP reported earlier in the night that Marlins' minor leaguer Mike Stanton, an 18-year-old ...
