Bradford: Manny Ramirez meets the ’Gold’ standard in left

Bradford: Manny Ramirez meets the ’Gold’ standard in left EGAD! Polynormial equacktions! Dewan’s Plus/Minus System just went kablooey! Forget 500 home runs, Manny Ramirez has his eyes on another prize - a Gold Glove. But, according to Ramirez, there’s one problem. “How am I going to win a Gold Glove if they take me out in the eighth (inning),” said the Sox left fielder, repeating a line he has passed through the clubhouse since he was removed for defensive replacement Jacoby Ellsbury on Friday night against the Twins. That was a joke. This, however, wasn’t: “I think I’m ...
Boston Red Sox News & Notes - 5/12

While may we may whine and bitch about the Boston Red Sox getting blown out, one thing has remained constant this season. You can’t count out the Red Sox. They never give up and always give it their all no matter what’s happening. It’s the mark of great leadership from the manager and a mark of a championship team.
The Red Sox did exactly that last night as they battled back from a 7-1 deficit. Unfortunately, their rally fell just short. It wasn’t the pretty of outings from Tim Wakefield who had by far his worst outing as a member of the Red Sox. It’s also only the 2nd time in his career that he’s gone less than 3 innings for sucking ...
Manny says he's the best defensive left fielder in Red Sox history

... , Manny Ramirez had some very interesting comments reported by Rob Bradford in today's Boston Herald. Ramirez, who had most of last night off before making the last out as a pinch-hitter (Ramirez, by the way, is a horrendous 3-for-24 in his career as a pinch-hitter), was in a joking mood, Bradford reports; predicting for example that friend and teammate Julian Tavarez would be traded to Milwaukee in exchange for one of the team's racing sausages. ...
Manny Gives Himself An A+ On Defense

Manny Ramirez made some very interesting comments to the Herald's Rob Bradford yesterday. Here are a few highlights: “I think I’m the best ever to play left field in Boston” “How am I going to win a Gold Glove if they take me out in the eighth...If Youkilis can win one, why can’t I? I only made two errors last year. Put a good word in for me." And his best quote: "Julian Tavarez will be traded to Milwaukee for one of the team’s racing sausages" Can the sausage pitch? He probably has an ERA under 6. ...
Manny Ramirez Wants A Gold Glove, Won't Get One
Published 5/12/2008 at FanIQ Blog
I've heard some ridiculous things over the course of my life, but I think this one may put everything else to shame.
Manny Ramirez wants to win a Gold Glove.
Yes, the same Manny Ramirez who makes every ball hit into left field an adventure, has that as a serious goal.
“I think I’m the best ever to play left field in Boston,” Manny said.
Before you laugh, here's his reason for that. He says that no other Red Sox has defended left field like him because of his familiarity with the intricacies of playing so many games in front of The Wall.
Of course, that may be true on some level, ...
Lunch Time Notes: "Straight Cash Homey"
Published 5/12/2008 by The Bottomline (noreply@blogger.com) at The Bottom Line: A Boston Red Sox Blog
After a 2-4 showing last night, Kevin Cash is now batting .375 on the you season. Cash is not the first guy that comes to mind when you need and hit and the game's on the line, but when Manny grounded out to end the game last night, I wondered why Tito didn't just stick with the hot hand... ...

Ramirez, best Red Sox left fielder ever?
Published 5/14/2008 by George Cosmo at MVN Outsider
On May 11th Manny Ramirez stated:
“I think I am the best ever to play left field in Boston.” See Boston Herald.com.
As a complete Manny Ramirez apologist I claim to objectivity; yet Manram’s claim cannot be written off as Manny simply being Manny. Ramirez seeks to win a Gold Glove this year and part of his claim as “best ever” comes from his time in the field and innovations he has designed.
“I invented that throw that I do,” said Ramirez, mimicking the double-play-like flip he uses to get the ball back into the infield. “I don’t know how it started, it just ...
