Ken Griffey Jr.: What Might Have Been?
DaveKingman posted 5/30/2008 from www.dugoutcentral.com
Ken Griffey is the greatest player ever - at least that's what the author says. He points out that Griffey has missed a lot of time due to injury. I'll, of course, still take Babe Ruth.Surprise Bruce Is Better Than Patterson
DunnandDunner posted 5/28/2008 from www.dunnanddunner.com
What a surprise Jay Bruce can out produce Corey Patterson's career in one game. Bruce goes 3-3 with 2 walks, 2 rbis, and 2 runs and just for the hell of it he throws in a stolen base. This kid hits the ball harder than most rednecks hit their wives. The best part of the night honestly was when catcher David Ross did the ceremonial pie of Ken Griffey Junior's %@#^ to the face. It was a great night for baseball… especially if you like rare events. You had Ken Griffey Jr. smash home run number 599 in his career… and get overshadowed. Yes, but not from us. Yet. A couple of neat things are going on right now in the world of sports. Ok, check that. One neat thing. Ken Griffey Junior is one home run away from number 600 in his illustrious career. Coincidentally, I'm one beer away from 600 in the month of May. Not quite as illustrious, but gimme a little credit here. Anyway, tuning into Fox to watch Junior Griffey's chase, ...What was up with Ken Griffey Jr.'s 'other' rookie cards?

Darren Rovell had a great piece on Slate today that looked at the larger issues surrounding the '89 Upper Deck Ken Griffey Jr. card (far left) and its bigger-than-big role in the evolution of the sports memorabilia industry. You would never imagine that something as insignificant as a smile could make or break a company. As a child I spent countless hours looking through my baseball cards and noticing everything from the colors of the players’ uniform, to the brand of bats and gloves worn by the guys I aspired to be like one day. In December of 1988 a new company under the name Upper Deck was granted a ...Buzz Bissinger Recaps His Fracas with Griffey Jr.
