Bears coach Lovie Smith moved a step closer to reuniting with Rod Marinelli on Friday when he hosted the deposed Detroit Lions coach at Halas Hall. In what could best be described as an informal interview, Marinelli visited the Bears four days after he was fired by one of their NFC North rivals, and the expectation in NFL circles is that he'll be hired to revamp the defensive line. The agent for both men said nothing is set.

that forces a coach to look for any ounce...
of optimism that he can grab on to about his team. This in turn makes the coach sound like a bumbling idiot any time he does an interview.
