Teixeira tribute hits the airwaves
Published 8/21/2007 at BBTF's Baseball Primer Newsblog
... A few weeks ago, a couple of self-described average college kids were fooling around on the guitar, and now to their amazement they have a cult following. And the best is yet to come. Tyler Crawford and Andrew Hall, who have been roommates at Auburn University for about a month, sat down one night in early August and, off the top of their heads, wrote a tribute to Mark Teixeira, a player the Atlanta Braves acquired July 31, the major league trading deadline. ...Today they ll record the song at the SportSouth/FSN South studio in Atlanta. The plan was for the two to record the song again for use in the Atlanta pregame show, Braves Live, before tonight s game at Cincinnati.

Positional Preview: First Base
Published 12/29/2007 by Will Schaffer at Chop-n-Change
I’m going to move on with the 2008 positional previews with a look at our first base situation. First base was at two ends of the extreme last year. The Braves turned to a platoon of Scott Thorman and Craig Wilson after shipping Adam LaRoche off to Pittsburgh. Needless to say, the platoon failed miserably as the tandem produced almost nothing at the plate. Thorman and Wilson combined for a paltry .208 average and 76 strikeouts before the All-Star break. Wilson was let go pretty quickly and Thorman rarely saw playing time in the second half.
A bold move by John Schuerholz around the deadline brought Mark Teixeira, the most ...
Community Projection: Mark Teixeira

It seems rare that a hitter would have more success in the National League than he had in the American League, but that's what Mark Teixeira did after his trade from the Rangers to the Braves last year. Of course, when moving from the cavernous expanse of the Ballpark at Arlington to the shorter fences and higher altitude of Turner Field, increasing one's power output may not be so surprising (also moving form the big parks of the AL West to the smaller parks of the NL East). Tex managed to hit 20 points higher, slug 91 points higher, and drive in over a run per game - 54 games, 56 RBI. ...
Busy Day
Published 1/15/2008 by Dom at The Beardown
It was pretty busy around work today, plus work on the shop was a little more time consuming than I thought. Anyways here's a couple videos I found on the net today. I've never seen ANYONE look as dejected as Kenny George does after getting dunked on. He drops his chin STRAIGHT to his chest. Some people say getting dunked on is part of the game, especially when you play in the post. I don't think Kenny George feels the same way. Dan Majerle would have dropped his epic "hey hun, don't forget the coffee." line following that one. Speaking of which, I read recently on TrueHoop that the former Suns standout trey-baller and current ...
Chipper Jones Chimes In; Nobody Notices
Published 2/21/2008 by Rob Iracane at Walkoff Walk
The Mets-Phillies rivalry is the new Yankees-Red Sox rivalry, except with poorer fans. After the Mets' epic September collapse and the Phillies' fizzled playoff run against the Rockies in 2007, both teams have a hard-on for shedding past failures and strutting about like cock-of-the-2008-walk. Way too much hullabaloo has been made since the start of spring training what with Carlos Beltran and Jimmy Rollins going back and forth about which team will reign supreme this season. Well, National League East fans, Chipper Jones feels left out:
"I really don't care what's being said," he said. "The ...
Braves Open Up Tonight
Published 3/30/2008 by Dave at Sports Blog - football, basketball, and baseball
I’m a baseball fan, though it’s really just a sport that occupies a dead time between college basketball and football. There’s way too many games, they don’t mean that much, and the sport is kind of slow. Beyond that, I’m a Braves fan, and they haven’t been able to make the playoffs the last couple of years. October is fun to watch, but it’s much more fun when you’re used to yoru team being there every year.
Well, my Braves open up tonight against the Nats in their new stadium, and while I don’t think Atlanta is going to ...
2007 Sabermetric Year in Review: Atlanta Braves
Published 4/6/2008 by Pizza Cutter at Statistically Speaking
My second-to-last stop on the tour (#29!) was actually my last stop on my actual tour of the U.S. Well, it’s not exactly a tour, but my wife is from Atlanta, and we were down there with my in-laws (and my nieces!). But it sounds cooler to say things like “I’m on a tour of the U.S.” In a year and a half or so, we’ll likely be moving down to Atlanta… so I’m guessing that my kids will grow up to be Braves fans…

The HuffPo’s Remmington Welcomes The End of His Own Sickening Front-Runnerism

(Ted Turner hoisting the World Series trophy in 1995. And to think, some people laughed when he signed Scott Hall and Kevin Nash)
Tom Glavine is nursing a hamstring injury from Sunday, which might actually come as pleasant news for the Huffington Post’s resident Braves fan Alex Remington. “Then they stayed atop the NL East for more than a decade, overstayed their welcome, and became known for playoff futility and the Tomahawk Chop, a stupid racist gimmick plagiarized from FSU,” recalls Remington. “Finally, they stopped winning, and I have to learn how to root for a team that ...
