There's the conventional coverage of the Masters golf tournament this week on ESPN and CBS, and then there's Masters mania on DirecTV.
This year the satellite carrier is offering free to its customers a Masters Mix Channel similar to those on its Major League Baseball Extra Innings and NFL Sunday Ticket packages.
The Masters Mix Channel will consist of a four-way

Yankees Chick found this 4/11/2008 on sports.aol.com
DirecTV's special deal to show the Masters on five different channels does for golf fans what NFL Sunday Ticket does for football fans, and I don't think I'm overstating things when I call it a great step forward for sports on television. The ...

From what we saw of it, we kind of enjoyed ESPN's Masters coverage yesterday. With all the screaming and beeping and what-not on the network anymore, it was almost pleasant to have the sleepiness inherent in Masters coverage wash over The Leader. A channel in which everyone seems afraid to raise their voice makes for happy viewers. Still, it was strange to hear Jim Nantz on ESPN; imagine ...Why Won't the Masters Get Out of My Face?

The tradition unlike any other is annoying me like nothing else in life. The Masters. Beyond Tiger Woods and the occasional rant on PTI, golf isn't the butter on my sports toast. As a sports blogger, perhaps there should be a more diplomatic approach to this, but it ain't happening. I'm much more into hockey right now, and the NBA hasn't been this interesting in years. Besides, if ESPN ...This Man Fathered A Swedecaublasian [The Masters]

ESPN's Masters Coverage has mostly enjoyable today, with Scott Van Pelt seemingly right at home covering all the yawwwwn thrilling action and excitement down at Augusta. It's safe to say that if Tiger's not in contention during the final round, the whole wall-to-wall coverage is a colossal failure. Last night, ESPN featured a little segment about a woman named, Jennifer Brown from ...Mike Tirico Doesn't Want to Talk About Why Chris Berman Isn't at The Masters

Chris Berman is still not on the property at Augusta National. I have yet to hear anybody complain. To echo my thoughts from last month : I'd say (no Berman at The Masters is a) victory for democracy and a blow to chubby, narcissistic windbags. Perhaps a bit much, but there's only so much a guy can take. On Tuesday, the Washington Post 's Leonard Shapiro questioned ESPN's claim that it ...Masters Live-Blog-Live-Blog (Seriously)

Since everyone loves golf and we’re all stuck in our offices today, a live-blog of the Masters would be wonderful. Unfortunately, despite numerous pleas on my part, TBL refused to send me [all-expenses-paid] to Augusta this week. Therefore, I have to rely on someone who actually got to attend: ESPN’s Jason Sobel . If you want to read about what’s actually happening in the ...Like last year, we anticipate the enjoyment ... Like last year, we anticipate the enjoyment of Jason Sobel's Masters live blog. [ ESPN ]Turns out the Masters Par 3 tourney more boring than we thought it was: Thanks ESPN!

ESPN made a big deal out of covering the Masters Par 3 tourney for the first time this year. It sounded good in theory. I was even OK with the blatantly deceiving promos they put out showing Tiger Woods pumping his fist in a long-ago par 3, even though ESPN producers knew full well he stopped playing in these years ago and wasn’t going to this year, next or anytime soon. Then, the ...The Masters Are Not Back Back Back [The Masters]

The Masters does begin tomorrow morning, at 8 a.m. (So set your alarms!) And, as mentioned last month, it will be telecast on ESPN, minus Chris Berman . We do not envy the exec who had to deliver that news to Boomer. This is The Masters, after all, and it is Very Serious. In an odd way, we kind of wish Berman were broadcasting The Masters; his signature brio and bluster might take the ...Track Your Fantasy Golf Teams With Additional Masters Coverage

Here is my Tuesday newspaper column, in which I . . . unfairly make fun of ESPN in wondering about its Masters credentials, give props to Isles analyst Billy Jaffe for his Emmy upset of Ron Darling, encourage Mike Milbury and Don Cherry to diss Jaromir Jagr and (sort of) congratulate Dickie V. for being elected to the Hall of Fame.Sophie Sandolo

A coup for the Golf Channel was landing Sophie Sandolo as a cast member for "Big Break: Kaanapali" - a golfer who already has a large international profile. That noteriety for Sandolo is mostly due to her modeling career, and more specifically to the racy calendars she's been doing for a couple years. Her golf gets overshadowed by her "outside activities," but Sandolo can play. She's been aGolf Fitness Academy Season Premiere
