These Are A Few of My Favorite Things (Yankees)
No, You're a Towel —
As I get ready to head down to the Canyon of Heroes to watch the 2009 Yankees be adored by over a million fans in a ticker-tape parade, there are a lot of things over the past day since the Yankees won to make me smile.I've listed a few of them here (and some pictures including the one on the right which was Deadspin making fun of all the unoriginal coverage). Enjoy!

The hook from the Hartford Courant:
The shortest curse in baseball history is over. Third-graders everywhere who had never seen the Yankees win the World Series in their lifetime can now sleep easy.
The Yankees ended nine years of title-less slumber — granted, a mere ...
I love a parade
New York Yankees Fan Blog —
I love a parade By Aziz November 06, 2009, 7:04AM For all of you heading out to lower Manhattan today, enjoy the parade. For those of you already pouring water on the fans' excitement -- that includes you, Joel Sherman, for writing anything entitled " Money may keep Yanks off free-agent market " two days removed from the World Series victory -- for now, stop it. That includes you, Tim Smith, for telling us today -- about, oh, 350 days from the next World Series -- that getting to the next World Series won't be as easy . I don't care about free agency right now. I don't care about which DH guy the Yanks are going to keep (if any). Oh, I will care about that, and soon. But not today. Not parade day, man. Frankly, I care more about where ...
Clippers Owner Donald Sterling Settles For $2.725M in Housing Discrimination Lawsuit
The Biz of Basketball :: Part of the Business of Sports Network —
Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling agreed to pay $2.725 million to settle a U.S. government lawsuit in which he was accused of housing discrimination. The Justice Department said the settlement is the largest ever obtained by the government in a discrimination case.
“Housing is a basic human need, and yet decades after passage of the Fair Housing Act far too many still encounter barriers like discrimination,” Assistant Attorney General Thomas E. Perez said. “The magnitude of this settlement should send a message to all landlords that we will vigorously pursue violations of the Fair Housing Act.”
The government sued Sterling in August 2006, accusing him of discriminating against black and Hispanic prospective tenants in buildings ...
Boise St. Engages PR Firm in Attempt to Gain BCS Game
The Biz of Football :: Part of the Business of Sports Network —
On the surface, something seems precarious about Boise State University hiring public relations firm Scott Peyron & Associates to help increase their chances at a BCS bid. Alumni, students and parents would be expected to react with something like: “They’re using our tuition and tax money for WHAT!!?!?!”
Though that type of reaction is understandable, Boise State’s decision to hire a PR firm is long-term sensible. Put it this way: the winner of the 2008 BCS Championship earned $17 million. Boise State won’t make that much, but they are in need of BCS money. The athletic department projected almost $30 million profit in the college’s budget plan. A great deal of pressure is put on their most nationally known program, football, to be a breadwinner. And, while ...
Timberwolves File Lawsuit Against AEG Over Target Center Signage
The Biz of Basketball :: Part of the Business of Sports Network —
The Minnesota Timberwolves Limited Partnership filed a lawsuit today in Hennepin County District Court seeking resolution of a dispute with AEG, the operator of the Target Center, arising out of AEG's failure to give its consent to the Minnesota Timberwolves' proposal to install signs on the Second Avenue North exterior face of the Target Center.
The lawsuit alleges that the contractual arrangements relating to Target Center provide that AEG's consent is required in order for the Minnesota Timberwolves to install additional exterior signs on Target Center, and that AEG is not permitted to withhold its consent "unreasonably." The Minnesota Timberwolves claim AEG has unreasonably withheld its consent.
"We generally have a fine relationship with AEG and ...
