Daily Farm Report 3/28/08
Future Redbirds — ... tonight, K’ing 9. I’ve been crowing about Crow, but apparently there are some serious concerns about his mechanics. The guys at saberscouting.com also take an ...

Daily Link Roundup
Beyond the Box Score — ... J.C. Bradbury's great Sabernomics site recently turned four years old. Speaking of saber, the SaberScout guys discuss whether Pitches Towards Outs quantifies dominance, and wonder out loud if Aaron Crow's mechanics will lead to an injury. As some of you may have seen, I took part in The Hardball Times Tampa Bay Rays season preview, I'd like to thank Bryan Tsao, Dave Studeman, and the rest of THT for giving me that opportunity. Pic of the day: Baseball in the Colosseum ...

Quick Note: Aaron Crow
Driveline Mechanics — ... and Saber-Scouting have written about him, the former disliking his arm action (showing signs of what Chris calls the Inverted W and Inverted L) while the latter likes his ability to scap load and his elbow picking up the ball. ...

Meet the Candidates: Aaron Crow
DRaysBay — ... Perhaps the biggest(only?) concern about Crow is his mechanics. Kiley McDaniel did an excellent report on his mechanics(highly recommended), so I'll just summarize the concern here. Basically, as Kiley describes, it's a wrapping of the wrist that causes more muscles to be used, and thus, increased probability of putting more stress on the arm. To date, Crow has not had any arm problems, and as noted, it's a red flag and not a fatal flaw, but worth keeping an eye on. ...

Top College Pitchers in the 2008 Draft
Minor League Ball — Here's my take on the top college pitchers in the 2008 draft. This class isn't particularly impressive and doesn't have as much depth as some past groups, but there are some reasonable options here especially for teams in the middle and later part of the first round. Some tentative rankings: 1) Aaron Crow, RHP, University of ...

MLB.com Updated Draft Projections
Dunn and Dunner — MLB.com posted their newest 2008 top 20 pick projections and they have the Reds selecting Aaron Crow. 7. Cincinnati Reds: Aaron Crow, RHP, University of Missouri Still the most plausible choice here, especially with Scheppers out of the mix and college pitching a little harder to come by. Shooter Hunt could be a possibility, but even with his struggles, Crow figures to go ahead of the Tulane product. If there's a change of heart and they want a bat, Gordon Beckham makes the most sense. They have Gordon Beckham going 8th to the Chicago White Sox. In all honesty Id rather have Beckham just because ...

SaberScouting — By The Mailbag As part our post-draft coverage, we thought the best approach would be to cover things that our readers wanted to hear about. We weren’t able to cover every player in our top 100 or get out all the content we wanted to before the draft started, but we still have that raw information. Rather than let it sit, or do a cookie-cutter post-mortem you could find anywhere, we’ll field your questions and be the open source style resource we wanted for draft info when we started following the draft. So, hit the new e-mail address we’ve set up for the mailbag, mailbag@saberscouting.com, and tell ...

Washington Nationals' Rumor Mill...PLUS...Baseball America's Top 10 List Is Coming...
Federal Baseball — RUMOR MILL... MLB.com writer Bill Ladson reported earlier this week that the Washington Nationals were not interested in signing veteran left fielder Manny Ramirez in an article entitled, "Nationals not interested in Manny", and Mr. Ladson's MLB Hot Stove blog post today, entitled, "Reports: Giants have interest in Manny Ramirez", reports on a story out of San Francisco claiming that the Giants have extended a 4-year offer to Mr. Ramirez, which would seem to put to rest any lingering thoughts of Washington's interest in the 36-year-old slugger. ...

San Francisco Giants Draft Preview, Part II: Aaron Crow
McCovey Chronicles — You should see the preparation I've been doing for these posts. No foolin'. Whenever I come across an interesting draft tidbit, I bookmark it. More than that, though, I have twelve different folders of bookmarks, each folder corresponding to a different amateur player. Sure, most of them are to the usual sources -- Baseball America, Kevin Goldstein, et al -- but I've still been doing some research. Hey, this back isn't going to pat itself. So now that it's time to sit down and write about Aaron Crow, I click on my handy dandy bookmarks toolbar...and come up with this as my only link for Crow-related information. It's not a Rick Roll, ...
