Gillick: Special Assistant to the GM?
Published 10/14/2008 by jnr98@yahoo.com (Jason @ IIATMS) at It is about the money, stupid
Joel Sherman had a really good idea: Cashman should hire outgoing Phillies GM as a special assistant/consultant. The Yanks should jump at that, because Gillick can enhance their sketchy player-choosing process. "He might be the best evaluator I have ever been around," said Philadelphia's director of major-league scouting, Gordon Lakey, who has worked with Gillick in three locales over 38 years. Cashman considers Gillick the role model for all GMs. That admiration, in conjunction with Gillick being 71 and not wanting to be a ...

Conciliere Gillick To Cashman’s Rescue?

Joel Sherman pitches the idea today in The Post. I’m Steve Lombardi, and, at first blush, I approve this message. Hey, it’s not like the Yankees would be the first team to do something like this…see the Angels, for example.

Odds and Ends: Gillick, Cashman, Tigers, White Sox

... Joel Sherman of the New York Post thinks Brian Cashman should hire soon-to-be-ex-Phillies' GM Pat Gillick as a consultant. Surprisingly, Sherman never mentions that Gillick worked with the Yankees in the past. He was their scouting director in 1975 and 1976 bfore moving onto the Blue Jays. ...

Our recommendation: Watch the playoffs

... , noting that Phil Hughes was the pitcher of the week for his one start, albeit with an odd stat line: five innings, no runs, five walks, a hit batsmen, and seven strikeouts. Perhaps even more notable -- a potential solution to next season -- Juan Miranda tore things up in the first two games, going 6-for-8 with three doubles, two triples, two RBIs and three runs. Joel Sherman has some slightly ridiculous stuff on why the Yankees should go out and bring in Pat Gillick -- okay, so while it's not a bad idea, it's just not going to happen so it's not worth spending time thinking ...

... Phils' GM Pat Gillick now a hot commodity and the Yankees' should snag him: " But Cashman should still find a way to work with Gillick. Because the skills that define Gillick's career - skills that should lead him to the Hall of Fame - are traits the Yankees can use even on a consultant basis." [NY Post] ...

Sherman Thinks The Yanks Should Hire Pat Gillick
Published 10/14/2008 by Greg Cohen (noreply@blogger.com) at Sliding Into Home: A Yankees Blog
From Joel Sherman (hat tip to MLB Trade Rumors): One of the most persistent rumors that circulated among baseball officials during the season was that Pat Gillick was going to move from Philadelphia GM to Mariner president and recruit Brian Cashman to be Seattle's GM. That buzz ceased earlier this month when Cashman agreed to a three-year extension to stay. But Cashman should still find a way to work with Gillick. Because the skills that define Gillick's career - skills that should lead him to the Hall of Fame - are traits the Yankees can use ...
