Monday Applesauce
Amazin' Avenue — ... Ramirez no, Ibanez yes? If the Mariners lower their asking price the Mets could make a play for Raul Ibanez. He could be a good fit here, as he's a New York native and knows Beltran well. He was also a Type A free agent last season, so the Mets could do well to trade a couple of so-so prospects, hang on to Ibanez through the end of the season, then let him walk away and collect the draft picks. ...

My Sports Rumors — ... Ken Davidoff of Newsday.com says that despite reports the Mets aren’t planning on making a run at Ramirez. On the other hand, the Mets have the most interest in Ibanez. The problem in acquiring him is the Mariners price tag. According to some reports, the Mariners want Mets top pitching prospect Jon Niese in return. The Mets aren’t willing to give up that much for just Ibanez, and I can’t blame them. Its to high of a price for someone who doesn’t even completely fit the teams need. After Niese, the Mets have no top tier prospects that ...

Rumor Mill Roundup: July 28
FanHouse — ... with little hope of contending this year, that might seem strange, but Atlanta expects to be back in the hunt in 2009 and Bay is already under contract for next season. - Despite how unlikely it is that Manny Ramirez will be moved before the deadline, the slugger's unhappiness has made rumors a daily staple. The Red Sox are believed to have talked to a handful of National League clubs about Ramirez. The Mets are one of those clubs, but there are conflicting reports out of New York about their interest. GM Omar Minaya has long been enchanted by ...
