... dropped out of the bidding. The Phillies refused to go beyond three years for Lohse. It's believed the Mets have made an offer to the 29-year-old for four years, but it's not known if it is for the $10 million per season he is seeking. With Carlos Silva talking to the Mariners and Livan Hernandez still unsigned, Lohse might be the best free-agent option available to Minaya, who likely will be interested if the A's put Joe Blanton on the market. George King at the New York Post reports that the Mets are the front runner for SP Kyle Lohse's services . Citing Philly Assistant GM Ruben Amaro, King reports the Philadelphia Phillies dropped out of the bidding for the for the righthander due to reluctance on the Phillies' part to go to 4 years. King states he believes the Mets did go to four years, but can't say how much they offered. Lohse is repped by superagent Scott Boras. So, the Mets should probably just wait it out a bit... let Lohse come to his senses, contact Minaya directly, and sign for less money. That happens, ...

Mets Cool On Hernandez, Eye Lohse
Published 12/20/2007 by Eli at MLB Rumors
... The Mets have pulled out of the running for Livan Hernandez and are now focusing in on Kyle Lohse. This comes as no surprise because Lohse has experience against the NL East after pitching with the Phillies, and has expressed his desire to stay in the NL and go to a competitor. Although I consider the Phillies the front-runner in the division, Lohse has no problem jumping to the rival Mets. It is believed that the Phillies had no interest in going over a Kuroda type deal for Lohse, while he is looking for a four year deal, worth 40-45 million dollars. Lohse is 29, and is 63-74 ...

If they're not, they need to move on plan B. One More Slot to Fill

The Seattle Mariners signed free agent Carlos Silva to a big 4 year/$48M contract. There is still one spot available in the Mariner rotation, who will it go to? Top ace lefties Johan Santana or Erik Bedard? How about rehab projects Mark Prior or Bartolo Colon? God forbid it goes to Kyle Lohse or Matt Clement, but maybe they'll just use Brandon Morrow or Cha Seung Baek? Check it out!

Who is available?
Kyle Lohse, Carlos Silva and Livan Hernandez are the three best pitchers remaining in the free agent market. OH BOY!!!! Considering the options, I’d be more inclined to see what Mike Pelfrey or Phil Humber can do. If they bust out, there’s the trade deadline. Those three options do little for me and are fifth-starter caliber at best.

The Mets would still like to add a starter and not much has materialized so far.
