Mets to target Brian Fuentes and Derick Lowe
Published 10/25/2008 by Long Island Met Fan (noreply@blogger.com) at 24 Hours From Suicide...A Day In The Life of a Met Fan
... I like Brian Fuentes. If you look at his stats his Whip over the last couple of years has decreased while K-Rod's has increased. Also Fuentes does not give up home runs. The question is does Fuentes have the stomach to play in NY and that is a big question. He can be signed for probably half of what it would cost to get K-Rod . Lowe perfect No. 2 for Mets rotation
Published 10/25/2008 by Eddie D'Anna at SILive: Ya Gotta Believe
... . Which is why I was pumped to hear Joel Sherman report in his World Series confidential that an NL executive who spoke to the Mets told him GM Omar Minaya plans to make a run at the 35-year-old starter . I'm tired of the all-or-nothing Ollie. Yeh, there's always a chance that, at 27, he'll suddenly figure it out and go on a tear that propels him into ace-dome. I'm willing to take that chance. Having a battle-tested veteran like Lowe adds legit leadership to a rotation that the enigmatic Ollie does not. Sort of like a right-handed Al Leiter, who was a cornerstone to BobbyV's ...

Mets 2008 Off-Season Needs: Bullpen
Published 10/26/2008 by Dave Doyle at The Mets Report
... The two top-tier choices are the Angels’ K-Rod and the Rockies Brian Fuentes. Clearly, K-Rod is head and shoulders above anyone else on the market this off-season. He’ll be looking for a five year deal from somebody. I hope the Mets don’t do it. He’s ultra-talented but the Mets really don’t want to get into a five year commitment to a relief pitcher. Their performance varies so wildly from year to year that it’s too difficult to predict future success levels. Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Mets will be front runners for Brian Fuentes in the neighborhood of ...

Mets could look to deal for closer too
Published 10/28/2008 by Eddie D'Anna at SILive: Ya Gotta Believe
The Mets will search under every rock to find a closer at next week's general managers meetings. That's the gist you get from reading Newsday's Kevin Davidoff today. Davidoff says the Mets feel like they've got the prospect to pull off a deal for Hudson Street or JJ Putz if those young closers are made available. This weekend Joel Sherman reported that the Mets have made free agent Brian Fuentes an off-season target , and the Wilpon's and their Citi Field/SNY bucks are one of the few franchises that can meet K-Rod's ...
