More New Converts: MetsGeek Becomes RaysGeek
Published 5/27/2008 by David Chalk at Bugs & Cranks
One of my core missions here at Bugs & Cranks has always been winning hearts and minds and new converts to Devil Ray Town.
It is therefore with a full heart that I’m delighted to pass along the following news. We have been joined by what was one of the top five Mets sites according to ballhype….
That’s right, MetsGeek has become….
I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot of more of this in the coming days, weeks and months.
I’m also sure there is much more potential for comic ...
The Scorecard: All Mets fans aboard the Rays bandwagon!
Published 5/27/2008 at Big League Stew
... That's probably not surprising, given the exciting youth of their team and their previous stature as the league's doormat. But it wasn't until this morning that I actually saw a blogger renounce (albeit jokingly — I think) his own team in favor of Joe Maddon's crew. [MetsGeek] ...
Mets Gee…Uhhh…Welcome to RaysGeek!
Published 5/27/2008 at BBTF's Baseball Primer Newsblog
Mets Gee…Uhhh…Welcome to RaysGeek! Welcome to the Damian Rolls Royce Ring of Hell! Over the past three years, MetsGeek has provided readers with top-notch analysis and writing about the New York Mets. I regret to inform you that those days have passed. Writing about the team just became too much for our staff to take. The Mets’ play has been so disappointing in 2008, that we just couldn’t bring ourselves to write another word on this team. Something needed to change. Eric called a meeting at the MetsGeek offices. We threw some ideas around to liven the site up again, but, in ...

... THE FIRST SIGN OF SUCCESS: The Rays are beginning to attract bandwagon followers. Among the first: The blog RaysGeek, previously known as MetsGeek. ("Unlike the Mets, we’ll never let you down. Because if the Rays’ season takes a turn for the worse, you can bet that we’ll be ready to jump ship again.") Its readers are thrilled, mainly because, as one wrote, "Finally I can root for [Scott] Kazmir without a guilty conscience." ...

... bright spots -- Taylor Buchholz, whom the Rockies seem determined to never start in any circumstances, ever, has a sub-1.00 WHIP, Brian Fuentes is doing his thing, and until they both took it on the chin tonight, veterans Jason Grilli and Matt Herges were holding it down. However, after that, things get scary, and what's as striking as the high ERA's is the sheer number of hurlers that Colorado has used this season. It's nineteen. And it's May!

Pedro was very respectable: 6 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 6K
But he had the misfortune of going up against last year’s #1 overall pick, David Price who was making his second pro start.
Price was better: 6 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 9 K
Jon Ziegler’s got more on Price vs. Pedro over at Rays of Light, the self-proclaimed “red-headed stepchild of Devil Rays blogs.”
I wonder if this is a delicate subject for our new brethren over at RaysGeek?

Shanoff's Wake-Up Call: Bee Trumps NBA

... for "changing allegiances" to the Rays (the blog is now known as Rays Geek ). Great marketing gimmick. (One obvious downside: Given the Rays' attendance, the "switch" likely won't improve the blog's traffic.) The Last Word: The NBA is going to fine players for flopping? Here's the question: Will it reduce the flops? No. Because here's the dirty secret: Flops work. If refs give the flopper the call and the team that gets flopped on is penalized in the game, it's worth a fine -- especially in critical situations. Now, if the league would add flopping as a ...

Here’s your key stat:
