Nobody’s really mentioned this, but Alex Rodriguez made history when the Yankees won the World Series. It was the first time in 23 years that the highest-paid player in baseball won a World Series ring.
The 1986 Mets released George Foster in August when he had the game’s fattest salary — $2.8 million. But the second-highest salary belonged to their catcher, Gary Carter.
The Yankees also bucked tradition a bit by winning with an old shortstop.
