Paul Maholm Strikes Out Billy Crystal
Published 3/13/2008 by Charlie <info@buccosdugout.com> at Bucs Dugout: Front Page Posts
More proof that Spring stats don't matter, I guess. Crystal did manage to work a 3-1 count before waving at the next two pitches. Maholm must have been sweating those. By striking Crystal out, he saved himself from what I only assume would have been an entire career's worth of clubhouse jokes.

Big Turnaround

... [Bucs Dugout] [PG] [ESPN] [Mondesi's House] [WHYGAVS] [Deadspin] -- Uh, oh, by the way, the Bucs actually beat the Yankees, 5-3 [recap]. Maholm, overshadowed by Crystal, tossed 4 innings of one-hit, scoreless ball against the ...

Billy Crystal should keep his day job. The actor/comedian started as the Yankees’ designated hitter - or “Designated Hebrew,” as he joked on Wednesday - against the Pirates, fulfilling a dream by donning the pinstripes for a spring training ...

Billy Crystal Holds His Head Up High; However, He Whiffs...

I didn't care for the fact Billy Crystal played in today's game, but I'll say for a guy who is not a baseball player, and at 60 years old, he didn't emberass himself. Ok, so he struck out in his at-bat (he hit leadoff); however he fouled off a pitch before being sent back to the bench. I watched the game on mlb.tv, and in the end, it was nice to see the Yankees embrace him.

SEE IT: Billy Crystal's At-Bat with the New York Yankees

Billy Crystal officially made history today, as he was placed in the lead-off position of the Spring Training game between the Yankees and Pirates at Legends Field in Florida. Crystal struck out, but not before taking Pirates starter Paul Maholm, to 3-1. Crystal, at age 59, wore the number 60 signifying his age when he has his birthday on Friday. Despite his age, Crystal look professional ...

Billy Crystal Strikes Out In New York Yankees Plate Appearance

The much anticipated (no, not really) Billy Crystal fantasy camp day turned into an actual at bat. I have to admit I didn't think that was actually going to happen. He actually faired quite well for a 60-year-old whose only tool is ...

Maholm strikes out Crystal

In Defense Of Billy Crystal [Billy Crystal]

Guy Who Wishes He Could Bat for the Yankees Hates Billy Crystal for Batting for the Yankees
I was looking for a video of Billy Crystal’s spring training at-bat so I could break it down. (He has a pretty good eye. I’m impressed that he took three pitches — I’d be swinging wildy at anything. Plus, he made contact! All-in-all, he did a pretty good job.) I found the video. Lucky for you and I, it has a little extra bonus: commentary from a person who may or may ...
Billy Crystal Doesn't Strike Out
So, Billy Crystal struck out yesterday, kind of. Each and every one of you would take the opportunity to take one at-bat in a Major League uniform wouldn't you? I can't sit here and blame the fella and I can't sit here and say that he did a bad job in his at-bat....especially for a 60-year old man. Kudos to Crystal for his effort and to the Yankees and MLB for letting him get a shot at doing ...
Weekly Waste of Oxygen
After a week off for the Weekley Waste, we are back with mostly nuisances rather than criminal offenses. 1. Billy Crystal Haters - He got 1 at bat and even made contact. That was it. It took a couple of minutes and then the story was over. That's all the story should have been. But nope some stupid ass bags out there had to get enraged for no reason at all. Spend your time doing something ...
Mussina Tells Critics to Back the (Expletive Deleted) Up!
Yeah, Billy Crystal had an at bat. Great. The real story from yesterday was Mussina's 5 perfect innings. Now I know its still spring training, but by all accounts, his curveball is looking sharp and dropping in for strikes. He doesn't have the velocity to blow hitters away so he will rely on finesse to get hitters out. Karsten's on the other hand had a really rough outing. I didn't think he'd ...
Billy Crystal Is Done Now
If you haven't seen it about a hundred times already, here it is: Billy Crystal's one and only at-bat for the New York Yankees today. The nice thing about the above video is that it's a decent fan capture of the whole event, which is exactly what it is: an event. It's harmless, I know, but I can't help but feel a tinge of anger watching this. How many fans dream of doing exactly this -- ...
Tom Verducci only lasted for 3 pitches in his celebrity spring training at bat
In 2005, Tom Verducci participated in the Toronto Blue Jays spring training camp and wrote about it. His one at bat took place at a Blue Jays intrasquad game. On an 0-2 pitch he hit a pop fly to the first baseman . I'm just saying that a much older guy, Billy Crystal, did surprisingly well to get a well hit foul ball down the first base line and even got the count to 3-1. And there was ...
Crystal Clear: He Stinks
Billy Crystal struck out in his one at-bat leading off today's exhibition game against Pittsburgh. He was ahead in the count 3-1, them whiffed at two cutters. He did make contact, fouling off one pitch. This chance to play with the Yanks kind of irked me. I know he's been a fan since he was a kid but he basically got to play because of that and since he's famous. You don't see them letting ...
Video: Billy Crystal Goes Down Swinging
It’s been an eventful few days of Spring Training for the Yankees…on Wednesday, a bench-clearing brawl in the Yanks-Rays game resulted in five ejections, and earlier today, 59-year-old Billy Crystal stepped up to the plate for the Yankees against Pittsburgh lefty Paul Maholm: Well, you’ve gotta give him credit for even making contact during his at bat — and ...

Don't Quit Your Day Job
Billy Crystal kinda sucks at baseball. I say kinda' because I've seen worse, I think. In his only at bat for the New York Yankees Thursday when they faced the Pittsburgh Pirates in an exhibition game, #60 was wrung up swinging and nailed himself in the back of the helmet with his bat on his backswing. Comedy gold? Yes, please. Crystal did hit a nice chopper down the first baseline, but it ...

Billy Crystal Is Old, Not Good at Hitting
By Chris Mottram This whole nonsense about the Yanks signing Billy Crystal to a contract so he can live some dream of his has just been ridiculous from the start. Obviously, the Yankees don't take spring training too seriously. Well, seriously enough to start brawls , but not serious enough that they're willing to sign 60-year-old washed up actors. So here's his at-bat. Can this all ...
Crystal Clear: Don’t Quit Your Day Job
The Mets are unfortunately not on TV today, so I was able to catch Billy Crystal’s at bat for the Yankees. Crystal, batting leadoff at DH, actually worked a full count against Pirates pitcher Paul Maholm before striking out. He did foul off the second pitch he saw. More importantly, the Mets are currently leading the Cardinals 1-0 after 1, thanks to an rbi single by Carlos Beltran.  ...

Pirates to Pitch to Billy Crystal Today
I'm against Billy Crystal suiting up for the Yankees today, but not for the reasons you might think. I'm all for bizarre events and weird promotional stunts, as long as they happen infrequently enough to remain bizarre. Eddie Gaedel was awesome.
