Mike Pelfrey: How Ya Doin’ There, Big Guy?
About six months back, I argued that the Mets wouldn’t miss Tom Glavine in 2008 all that much, at least partly because I thought we had a couple of in-house replacements—Philip Humber and Mike Pelfrey—who could contribute close to Glavine’s level of production for league-minimum salaries. Glavine has since gone on to pitch at his expected level of mediocrity for the Braves, and Humber of ... [link]

Blog: Analyzing Mike Pelfrey
Published 5/8/2008 by Mike Nichols at MetsBlog.com
Over at Metsgeek, Jeff Mathews analyzes Mike Pelfrey’s performance this season using a variety of statistics, including the very impressive use of Pitch-F/X data. Based on the data Mathews believes Pelfrey should try pitching backwards, writing: “Right now, Pelfrey is throwing a first-pitch fastball more than 80% of the time. Instead, maybe he should try to get ahead of the hitters with a get-me-over slider, and then finish the ‘em off with that moving fastball. I mean, why not? Whatever he’s doing now isn’t working, so why not try something different?” …i’ve followed pelfrey’s ...

Time To Win On The Road
The Braves closed a dominant homestand to start off the month of May, winning all 6 games to extend their best-in-league home record to 14-4. However, the road games are where the Braves have struggled thus far this season, only amassing 4 wins in 15 tries. The Braves put their 6-game winning streak on the line against the Pirates to open up a 4-game series in Pittsburgh. Tom Glavine will ...
Game 35: Pirates at Braves
Ian Snell and Tom Glavine tonight at seven. The sweep of the Giants was sweet, especially since they come away with their ace to open the next series. That's how you want it done. On the other hand, you'd like to be better than four games under .500. Any season will have its ups and downs, and winning three straight to attain .441 is not much of an up. Here's hoping Snell can keep the ...

1995: Phillies edge Braves, again…
May 8th 1995, Atlanta: Braves 3, Phillies 4 ( Box Score ) Ok, so Maddux, Smoltz and Mercker couldn’t get it done. So now it was time to turn to southpaw Tom Glavine to put a halt to the current skid - and kick the Phillies out of town with a loss. David West would get sent out to the hill to face the Braves. Once again Bobby Cox would send Chipper out to man left field while ...
Score One For Selma
The highest game score recorded by a WINNING Mets pitcher not named Tom Seaver or David Cone is a 96, but it's not likely you'll be able to guess who recorded it. It wasn't Jerry Koosman or Nolan Ryan. It wasn't Dwight Gooden or Sid Fernandez. It wasn't Tom Glavine, or Pedro Martinez. It wasn't Jon Matlack or Ron Darling. It was by Dick Selma. On September 12, 1965, Selma, a prized 21-year-old ...
