Following the sparky, unpredicable NFL season that's been laid out before us -- from Tom Brady's and Tony Romo's injuries, to the Miami Dolphin's wins against dominant teams -- the unbeaten 4-0 Giants were soundly clobbered by the unlikeliest of teams, the 2-3 Browns.
The Brown's executives had put a short lease on starting quarterback (see http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afcnorth?tag=giants-browns), and Derek Anderson showed his mettle, throwing accurate short and long passes against a Giants defense that just didn't look like the Giants defense of 2007.
What I want to know is this: Was this simply a matter of the Brown's summoning up their collective mojos and putting it all together? Or was this the Giants just walking in thinking they would pwn the Browns on their home turf?
From the looks of it, the Browns did their homework and executed. Eli Manning, who had only thrown one interception until tonight, threw three interceptions, killing his team's chances of coming back in the fourth quarter with a hanging throw near the red zone. To make matters worse, Manning had Browns cornerback Eric Wright in his sights for a tackle. But instead Manning tried to strip the ball--missed it--and Wright completed his 94-yard interception for a high-stepping TD.
Braylon Edwards also had a hell of a night, catching passes for 70 and 49 yards, plus an 11-yard touchdown reception. Before tonight, Edwards had only caught a season low of 94 yards. Against the 2007 Super Bowl champs, he caught five passes for a 154-yard night.
So, I ask you: did the Giants have an off-night? Or are the Browns for-real Super Bowl contenders? (Because if they can consistently play like the way they did tonight, they're headed for the post season.)
PS, did you know the Brown's original mascot was a brownie elf? That's right, the Cleveland....Elves. I kid you not. Glad that's old and done with. How embarrassing! Also, when one thinks about it, what is the official mascot of a team whose name, based on former coach Paul Brown? The new mascot is a dawg.

SurferRosa Nice picture of the Brownie Elf.
Yeah, I agree. If the Browns played like they did tonight, they could make it to the post-season. But that's just it. Most teams can't always play at such a high caliber.
As for the Giants. They'll be back. Eli had a bad night. It will probably help them for the next game, in fact.

abcdefgene I think the Browns played a great game, especially on D. They have a lot of promise and they lived up to it tonight. -
Genevieve14 The Giants aren't exactly the same team as last year, especially the defense. Will the win the Super Bowl? Hm... Will they make it to the play-offs? I'm betting yes. -
jennatar Are the Elves any match for the Fighting Pickles?
