More than a pocketful for Posey in this lucrative deal - NBA
More than a pocketful for Posey in this lucrative deal - NBA
James Posey Nathaniel S. Butler/NBAE/Getty Images The shine of playing for the title-winning team pays off for James Posey. But is he worth it? You knew this was coming -- the inevitable overreaction to a role player on a championship team in free agency. Every year there's one guy whom teams can't stop fawning over, and this year it was James Posey . Sure, he was an integral part of ...

Plan B - Post-Posey Era
CelticsBlog — poseyfloor1.jpg After weeks of speculation and a solid week of hints and threats from Mark Bartelstien, this really should come as no surprise. Still, I always kind of envisioned him coming back. I didn't think he'd get a 4 th year and if he did I thought that Ainge would bite the bullet and offer it to him. But he didn't and Posey will now play for the New Orleans Hornets. First, let's take a look at the good news. He won't be playing for the Pistons, Cavs, Wizards, or any other Eastern Conference team next year. So we won't have to face him in the first 3 rounds of the playoffs. Also, we won't be paying him close to $7,000,000 when he's 35 years old. For more on this, see John ...

Exposed?
The Shamrock Headband — ... And because of Posey's demeanor, and all the little things he does, I am not willing to discount this signing by the Hornets, as unusual as it seems when you already have Julian Wright, Mo Pete and Peja. Posey is one of the few players in the league for which stats really don't seem to do much justice at all. He can be vastly superior than what his PER indicates. But he also can be just an average player, as he often was with Miami. He needs the right situation to thrive, and if New Orleans gives him that environment he might be worth the high cost. ...

Ukic signing official + Joey Graham speaks + TJ Ford!
Arsenalist — Official announcement of the Roko Ukic signing is the main news of the day. It’s a guaranteed three year deal that runs till the end of the 2010-11 season. Financial terms weren`t disclosed but given how close the Raptors are to the cap, it can`t be more than a million per. In 34 regular season Italian League games, Ukic averaged 11.5 points, 2.6 rebounds, 3.0 ...

The Hornets: Less Poseur With Posey?
The Arena — The Wednesday after baseball’s All-Star Game is the quietest day in American sports, really the only one that doesn’t have a substantive event from the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, the PGA Tour, or NASCAR. So little things, like James Posey signing with the New Orleans Hornets, make big news. (And, as a newly minted Hornets fan, I’m paying more attention to ...

Posey Is a New Orleans Hornet
Celtics 17 — Dang nab it!  James Posey signed with the Hornets yesterday, to the tune of $25M over 4 years. It’s not that he didn’t like like being a Celtic, he just followed the money like a Hornet to a piece a hamburg sitting at the picnic table. He’s going to have his financial security well into retirement, and could even challenge for more NBA championships with Chris Paul and Co. Not a bad gig at all for the 31-year old forward. Posey Memories Quite frankly, the quiet demeanor of James Posey was a calming factor that fit his role in anchoring the bench for the Celtics. He wasn’t perfect by any means, but he was a consummate team player and fit nicely ...

Now What?
RedsArmy.com - The Voice Of Celtics Fans — Courtesy: Jesse Haley So… The Mongoose is gone.  At least he’ll be in a conference where he can pick on The Mamba more often.  But I’ll add my name to the chorus of saying as much as I hate seeing PoZ go… 4 years at $25 mil. is too much.  John Hollinger has a very good breakdown of that argument. ...

The Fundamentals
BallerBlogger.com — 20 Second Timeout : “Any Denver fans who entertained notions that Carmelo Anthony and Allen Iverson would ever lead the Nuggets to playoff glory received a very rude awakening when Nuggets management “traded” starting center Marcus Camby to the L.A. Clippers for the right to swap second round draft picks in 2010. Contending teams do not simply give away a valuable asset like Camby–and that is precisely the point: the Nuggets are not a contending team and their management is painfully aware of that fact.” Aaron J. Lopez and Chris Tomasson of The Rocky Mountain News :  “After blocking 1,126 shots in six seasons with the Nuggets, center Marcus Camby took a few Wednesday.  ...

Overreaction to Losing Posey
17Banners.comHere's John Hollinger's take on the Posey deal:   It's true that Posey brings three things to the table: defense, rebounding and 3-point shooting. He's not an all-defense guy, but he's an above-average defender who can play multiple positions, and that's certainly helpful. So are the 3s -- in his past three campaigns he's hit 40.3 percent, 37.5 percent and 38.0 percent from downtown. And he's an underrated defensive rebounder who had the third-best defensive rebound rate ...

Last James Posey Post

Hollinger Reviews Summer Moves
CelticsBlog — Quite an extensive breakdown. Here are the Celtics notes: Bargain pickups Tony Allen's two-year, $5 million deal with Boston looks like a good value, especially given his ferocity on defense -- but only if he can make any kind of strides in his recovery from a 2007 knee injury. Eddie House earned his two-year, $5.6 million deal with strong shooting in the Finals, showing he's one of the league's better backup point guards, despite his inability to dribble against pressure. Draft do-overs Take Patrick O'Bryant, for instance. He hardly saw the light of day in two years with Golden State, but Boston thought enough of his potential to give him a two-year, $1.65 million deal. ...

The Posey Decision: One Year Later
Boston Celtics Basketball - Celtics news, rumors and analysis - CelticsHub.com — We all miss James Posey. I’d guess that a majority of Celtics fans view Danny Ainge’s decision to bow out of the Posey bidding as a bad one, possibly the worst choice Ainge has made since taking over the C’s basketball operations earlier this decade. Ainge committed to offering Posey only a three-year deal worth the mid-level exception; when New Orleans tacked on a fourth season, Ainge wouldn’t match, and we all wondered whether it was really worth losing a key cog in a championship team over one year and 6 million measly dollars.  A year later, it’s time to ask: Does the signing of ...

emptythebench.com 7/17/2008 — You can say what you will about Posey’s limited offensive game and after-the-whistle antics, but at this point it’s hard to deny the man’s effectiveness. In four years when his body is wearing down New Orleans will be overpaying for Posey’s services — but if he can help them snatch a title before then, well, you won’t hear anybody complaining about it.
