Most Fierce NFL Mascot Competition: Chief Zee vs. Roary - SPiN - CBSSports.com The Lighter Side of Sports
No. 8 Washington vs. No. 1 Detroit If we honor this competition's essence -- fierceness -- it's hard to imagine Roary, the Detroit Lions' oversized mascot not making it through. He's 10 paws tall, "heavy," and has a shoe size "bigger than Shaq." As round one scribe Ron Davis points out, Roary also likes extreme activities like mechanical bull riding and various snow sports. Vote for Chief Zee!
Published 6/17/2008 by Anthony Brown at Hog Heaven
... the battle of the football mascots?  CBS Sportsline.com is running a contest of the Most Fierce NFL Mascots pitting team mascots against each other in a beauty contest of sorts. Washington, the team with the politically incorrect name, doesn’t have an official mascot. So Sportsline selected “Chief Zee,” the character created by Redskins fan Zeema Williams, who has become the unofficial face of the team. The Chief is leading Roary, mascot of the Detroit Lions, by 55%-45% in the quarterfinal vote. ...

Beltway Dwellers Love Their NFL Mascots

... as "chubby, lazy, but undeniably lovable." Meantime, the legendary, if a bit up-in-years Chief Zee, meantime, pounded San Fran's Sourdough Sam in the first round, and just today soared past top-seeded Lions mascot Roary to enter the NFC semifinals. Eight mascots remain; three are from this general area, if you include Philly's Swoop. So....a Poe vs. Chief Zee final? A veteran black man dressed like a Native American against a newcoming bird inspired by a 19th century poet? More likely than a Ravens-Redskins Super Bowl, anyhow. ... horrific as there is so much flooding going on.  It literally has put the University of Iowa's campus under water.  SB Nation's Iowa blog, Black Heart Gold Pants, has more. Kevin Jones believes he is ready to play.  He was originally scheduled to return from his injury by training camp, and it appears as though that will happen should he sign with an NFL team by the time training camp begins. Roary, the Lions' mascot, was upset by the Redskins' mascot in CBS Sports' "Most Fierce NFL Mascot Competition." ...

[image] " Chief Zee , while not a true mascot (technically he's a Hall of Fame super fan), has shown, time after time, his heart pumps burgundy and gold blood. Check out this snipped from the Washington Times: 'This is the first time Mr. ( Zema ) Williams has been injured since a game at Philadelphia in 1983, when angry Eagles fans attacked him, breaking his leg, tearing off his original Indian costume and leaving him hospitalized. Fans donated money for his recovery. He never missed a game.'" I know that the Chief has been harassed countless times over the years ...
