I would suggest the Oaklahoma City Bandits.......The colors......Black,Silver and Old Gold .......the logo depiction would be a head silhouette of a man with a cowboy hat and a bandanna covering his face etched in silver with glowing eyes overshadowed by a full gold moon marked like a basketball

Oklahoma City Thunderbirds- the 45th Infantry Division was based in the Sooner State, and were well-decorated. It can easily be shortened to the T-Birds.

Very interesting idea! I think Oklahoma has the #2 rating by state for the number of casinos...Nevada is #1--but we are getting close. Of course, they DO have somewhat flashier casinos...

Well, as an Oklahoma State alumnus, I would have to say NO to the Cowboys name, as that's been taken (LOL).

However, since the Triple A baseball team is now known as the RedHawks, I wonder if they would mind the 89ers, to honor the land rush?

I think we should call them the

     Oklahoma City Pride

We could use the lion as a mascot,  but it also relays what Oklahoma is about.  Full of pride!!!

I think we should name them the Oklahoma City Rockets because we can blow the other team into outer space, we have more astronauts from here than any other state, the famous rocket man, and the possibilities are endless!!!Also, the OKC Cyclones; but then again how many Oklahomans have lost Everything because of tornadoes???  They are destructive, but may hit alitte too home!!!!  I think yhe possibilities, the endless technology, and some silver of the uniforms would add just enough "bling" or shine; in a great way!!!  Hope this helps@@@  Sincerely, Jennifer Colbert  761-1081 and/or 607-8790!!!  You probably already have the name picked out; but pleacer consider  this because it is the entire state and we desrve a strong name we can buildon, be proud of, and gow with!!!!Sincerely, Jennifer Colbert  OKC

How about the Oklahoma Owls.  It has a ring to it.  Try the L.A. Lakers verses the Double Oh's.

    1. The Roughnecks
A nod to Oklahoma's oil workers. Of course, there was also a short-lived NASL (North American Soccer League) team by that name, but who remembers the NASL anyway?

    2. The Buffaloes
In reference to the Buffalo Soldiers, who built forts, provided the police force and fought in the Indian wars back when Oklahoma was a territory.

    3. The Robbers
In homage to Oklahoma's lawless pre-statehood past, when it was a haven for criminals, exiles and ne'er-do-wells of every stripe. Plus think of all the cute puns this would open up for sports writers.

    4. The Red People
This is perhaps my favorite, though in the age of political correctness, I know it will never fly. But the word Oklahoma is actually two Choctaw words meaning "red people," so as a nickname for a team from Oklahoma City, it makes perfect sense. Besides, how cool would it be to hear an anchor on ESPN say, "...but in the end, the Wizards were completely overrun by the Red People."

    Anyway, those are my suggestions.

Tornadoes seems to be the logical one--you could hold up cards for the team late in a close game--saying--"GO to F-5!!"

Most important--we need to have the loudest crowd response humanly possible when they hit the court the first time, long and loud and wild! OU fans have helped OU win many times that way. And we will show the detractors who poke fun at us getting our first NBA team how we do it here. The team would freak out and never forget it--start hitting 3-pointers from near mid-court. And it would be A LOT of fun for the fans...Let's DO IT!! Next up--NBA champions.

I never thought of Wind--but--OKC is the second windiest city in America...the #1 is some obscure place. Chicago is way down the list.

The "WIND" is a damn good suggestion!

I'm sorry, most of the suggestions on here are VERY stupid! I am from Oklahoma, and I love basketball. I am glad to get an NBA team. If the team is named anything weather related, we will officially take the spurs place as the best WNBA team in the league. Look at the WNBA team names people. Wind and thunder.......seriously? I might go to a game of the OKC Wind, but I wouldn't wear an merchandise. How embarrassing!

According to NBA sports, the owner has register the name Oklahoma City Thunder with the NBA.

Thunder does not work for me, since the Golden State Warriors mascot's is named Thunder.

So, it shoud be reconsider to Oklahoma City Machine, Rangeman, Rampage, or T-Birds sounds more historical and has great meaning to the State.

    That's my take on it.
