... in the Eastern Conference thus far, and feels the Rangers are "trending up." But he cautions that the Rangers are counting on a couple of "mighty big ifs" in hoping that a change of scenery helps revitalize both Wade Redden and Markus Naslund. Naslund is excited to hit Broadway, and mentions that the Rangers were his No. 1 choice when he became an unrestricted free agent. [Side note: Has any player signed with a team and then declared that team as their second or third choice? We suppose in those cases, the players just don't tell us.] ...

Gillis wasn't comfortable courting Naslund
From Matthew Sekeras of the Globe & Mail: They say friends know when to say "when," and besides being the general manager of the Vancouver Canucks, Mike Gillis is also Markus Naslund's former agent and his friend. That Naslund's 12-year relationship with the NHL team had to end this week was evident to all, a divorce where even the kids agree it's for the best. Gillis knew it, Naslund ...
Buzz: Rangers Have Offer for Demitra
The New York Rangers don't appear done yet as they have sent out a offer for injury prone winger Pavol Demitra . He has offers from other teams for more money, but the chance to play in New York and compete for a Stanley Cup. Markus Naslund has taken up the role of r ecruit to encourage Demitra to come here. NHL Free Agent Signings From July 3, 2008
The free agency frenzy is continuing as teams snatch up players in hopes of improving their rosters for the upcoming NHL season (just three months left! LOL). Among yesterday’s deals was the signing of Markus Naslund by the New York Rangers .  Naslund has been a key player for the Vancouver Canucks who, I personally feel, is a team that is lacking in many areas but I’ll ...

Thanks to GZ Expat for the link. This from Swedish newspaper Sports Bladet: "It's been my plan since July 1," says Näslund to newsday.com. Jagr era over
That's what appears to be. The Rangers announced the signing of Markus Naslund, on a two-year deal. I don't like Naslund, but it's a one year deal. They also added defenseman Dmitri Kalinin. He's not bad, but was pretty banged up last season. He replaces Tyutin. I'll have more details later on, but for all intents and purposes, the Rangers have moved on in a big way....

Bye, Naslund
Markus Naslund signed a two-year deal with the New York Rangers today—New York being pretty much as far as one can get from Vancouver without actually swimming in the sea or hanging out in Miami.  And I don’t blame him one bit. Naslund acquired by Rangers
Vancouver will have a new captain next season, as Markus Naslund has signed a 3-year deal worth $18 million with the New York Rangers. Or is it a 2-year deal worth $8 million? Dear god. Reports state that Jaromir Jagr will not be back with NYR and so the Naslund deal was done. "I think for anyone who dreams of playing in the NHL, playing for one of the Original Six teams with the history and ...

HOSSA A RED WING
TSN and the PG are both reporting that Marian Hossa has signed a one-year, $7.4 million deal with the Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Red Wings. Considering the wild contracts allegedly tossed around the past few days, this deal is somewhat surprising, especially considering it's relatively close to the annual numbers the Penguins offered. So much for that "hometown discount". As ...

John Dellapina reports that he just spoke to Jagr, and while he won't comment on the Pittsburgh rumors, Jaromir believes the Rangers are "going in another direction". According to Dellapina, http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/rangers/ , Jagr isn't close to re-signing and feels that the Rangers are going in a different direction. Dellapina also notes that the Rangers seem to be pursuing Markus Naslund (I called it thank you) and Mats Sundin. If this is the case, they better not forget a defenseman or two. Nothing else really going on in Rangerland.
