Adding insult to injury, in my opinion.

I really don't like this happening. I don't think it's classy for the league to admit to one mistake and not to the others. This action takes away what the Lakers players earned. Afterall, they were the ones that were getting all the calls against them. Why doesn't the league admit that Derek Fisher's shot hit the rim and the shot clock should've been reset?

    I could see that.

But moreso, I fail to see what this move accomplishes. Will San Antonio have a different outcome because of the league saying it should have been a foul? No. Will anything, such as replay rules change because of this? Probably not. So why throw the refs under more scrutiny? Why add to the misery for Spurs' fans? [Note, Spurs should have lost regardless] If nothing is going to change, I'd simply state it as a judgement call. "Accountability" such as this is simply useless, in my opinion.

Foul or No Foul? NBA Answers
ShoreBall Enterprises, LLC — ... Fisher’s shot hit the rim but the shot clock was not reset, etc. My question was and has always been – in looking at the final play and that play alone, what that a foul? And for all the Lakers fans saying that it wasn’t a foul, put the Lakers in that situation – down by 2 points, at the end of the game, Kobe gets the ball and Tony Parker does exactly what Derek Fisher does, is that a foul then? Well, the NBA has answered both questions. The league office ruled that a two-shot foul should have been called on Derek Fisher ...

League Acknowledges it was a foul
The Lakers Nation — ... ESPN: Barry then wound up with the ball in the center of the floor on a play called for Manu Ginobili and faked Fisher in the air but struggled to get off a 3-point heave at the buzzer after Fisher came down and bumped Barry. ...

The Call That Wasn't
San Antonio Spurs Dynasty — ... I was the official,” Popovich said, “I wouldn’t have called that a foul.” Said Barry: “That shouldn’t be called in the Western Conference finals.” Barry’s wrong. Crawford should have called it.Fans agree. Check out the poll on Yahoo. With over 23,000 votes cast so far, 63% believe that Derek Fisher fouled Brent Barry. The only question is whether it was on the floor (45%) or with continuation (18%). The NBA settled that question today by acknowledging its mistake. The foul should have been called on the ...

NBA: That Was a Foul
ESPN.com - TrueHoopESPN's Marc Stein reports: The league office on Wednesday reviewed the final play of the San Antonio Spurs' 93-91 home loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 4 of the Western Conference finals and acknowledged that a two-shot foul should have been called on Derek Fisher for impeding Brent Barry. After falling behind by seven points in the final minute, San Antonio sliced the deficit to two and regained possession with 2.1 seconds to play. Barry then wound up with the ball in the center of the floor on a play ...

League Acknowledges Blown Call
Fanster.com — ... It's sort of refreshing, really.  Two birds with one stone.  The Sp*rs get robbed on a call and "the League" actually admits to a mistake.  Here is a link.  Well, they say it appears to be a foul on the replay.  Really?  Jumping on someone's head takes a replay to figure out? ...

A finalist determined tonight? I think so
Doug Smith's Toronto Raptors blog — ... teams evenly-matched in talent. And I’ll tell you this, I’d have to do a bit more thinking about it, but having watched all of these conference finals games, I’m leaning to suggesting the Lakers win the final in five games. That may change when we look more closely at the individual matchups but L.A.’s just going so well right now. - Okay, maybe time to revise the thought on that Derek Fisher non-call at the end of Game 4? The league is. Check out this Marc Stein story and see the quote from the league official. I’m pretty sure if I’m ...

No carts ahead of horses
Lakers Blog — ... (one that'll change again next year when Andrew Bynum comes back). That's the basketball end of things. Off the court, of course, the issue of Brent Barry's last second shot and the no-call on Derek Fisher is still percolating, thanks in no small part to the league issuing a statement saying the officials got it wrong. Still, even in San Antonio, there are voices telling people to put down their megaphones, pitchforks, and torches- ...

The foul retroactively heard 'round the world
Lakers Blog — In lieu of a formal breakdown of things to watch for tonight, since nothing particularly new has emerged worthy of analysis, I decided to share a few thoughts on the NBA's admission that they bricked the Fisher/Barry no-call . Their announcement has sparked debate everywhere from the radio talk shows to this here blog. How much weight should the mistake carry, since the sequence itself was set up in very large part because a shot by Fisher that grazed the rim was incorrectly ruled an air ball. Does the incorrect decision by the refs somehow "asterisk" or "taint" the series, ...

Your Call: No Call Or Foul?Intentional Foul
As we get close to the Dog Days of Summer, a time where the MLB rules supreme while sports folks are waiting for the football season to kick-off, the sports news begins to enter a slow-down mode. I suppose that explains the great deal of discussion surrounding the way the Lakers/Spurs game ended last night. Did Derek Fisher foul Brent Barry? What call would you have made in that situation?  ...
