Are there any *other* tall players the Rockets can pursue now?
The Dream Shake — It looks like Marcin Gortat has rejected the over-the-top wooing efforts of Daryl Morey.  Translation?  It appears that the only legit center on the free agent market has spurned the Rockets' advances to sign with the Dallas Mavericks.  Yes, Mark Cuban somehow out-bid Daryl Morey.  Damn him. So, uhhhh, are there any tall or even tall-ish players available that the Rockets can sign?  Let's face facts - Yao Ming ain't walking through that door until at the earliest March of 2010, so we need someone to man the center ...

The Two Man Game — ... and some wicked courting by Mavs’ coach Rick Carlisle, something delightful happened.  Gortat reportedly has come to a verbal agreement with the Mavs for the full midlevel exception.  Chivalry is not dead, ladies and gents; Carlisle must have pulled out all the stops in Orlando.  I’m talking horse-drawn carriage, new cologne, and roses upon roses.  As something of a sweetheart and a sentimentalist himself, how could Marcin resist? ...

Which Free Agents Should the Bobcats Target?
Rufus on Fire — ... Ron Artest is headed for the Lakers. Marcin Gortat is gonna hook on with the Mavs. And Trevor Ariza is closing in on an agreement with the Rockets. === The Bobcats need to add two players, and, ideally, they will both be better than the current options. At PG, assuming we keep Felton, that would be a player that's better than Dontell Jefferson. Various guys out there who have no business starting, but can back up, include: Anthony Carter Jason Hart Fred Jones ...

Artest to L.A., Ariza to Houston
The Scores Report - The National Sports Blog — ... We’ll never know if Ariza was just playing hardball when he expressed frustration that the Lakers wouldn’t offer more than the mid-level because the team called his bluff and moved on. But when the “Polish Hammer” reportedly made a verbal agreement to join the Mavs, the Rockets moved on to the 24-year-old Ariza. ...
