NBA Handicapping
Acks wants twenty seconds to talk it over. Boof made picks on his own today, so after discussing the picks in hindsight we agreed that we wanted New Orleans rather than Detroit. We're well aware of the recent success from the Motor City contingent but the Pistons may not fare as well in the second game of a road back-to-back against a quicker (albeit more injury-prone) Hornets team. NEW ...

Last call at The Rack
The NBA Source — ... As for the fate of the Picksix, the handicapping crew continues to explore possibilities with it.  Don’t be surprised if our prognosticating ineptitude turns up somewhere in the near future. ...

52 Pickup: Burkett battles Boof
MVN Outsider — ... , as well as numerous comments I’ve left here over the Rack’s solid 10 month run.   With Steve “Boof” Weinman taking the Picksix elsewhere , I figured that a little friendly competition is in order.  I’m here to pick up the pieces, and just like that wonderful card game, make little sense of the NBA action.  It’s time for me to take it to the rack myself!  Here are my picks: WASHINGTON over Cleveland (-0.5)  - It’s hard to imagine the Cavs winning a game right now.  Surprise, surprise…Danny Ferry matched the offer for Varejao.  How will he save face now?  LBJ is still out and ...

The known unknowns: Early questions and answers in the NBA
We Rite Goode — ... modest, I just want to take this opportunity and say "I CALLED IT" that Mr. Hilario breaks down more than my 1992 LaserDisk player. What question should we have been asking? Why didn't we start calling much traveled end of the bench warmer Jelani "The Real"? As in, Jelani, "The Real" McCoy? Wait. Don't answer that. THE CONTENDERS Steve Weinman, formerly of Taking it to the Rack, now Celtics Blog and The Picksix: NBA Handicapping. What off-season question has been answered so ...

52 Pickup: Where drawing even happens
MVN Outsider — ... Last night, we beat the Boof and Team TAB  with a 2-1 margin. Portland’s solid performance at home secured the win on the day. 52PU is now 7-7 on the season. For those keeping score at home, it’s Boof 1, Burkett 1. I nearly went 3-0, thinking to myself that the Hawks were given too many points over the T-wolves.  Since they were the home team, I decided to ride it out.  It took a last second shot by Joe Johnson to pull out the one point win.  Before I get to tonight’s picks, I just wanted to make the point that I think the NBA’s slogan, ”Where amazing happens,” is lame.  It’s ...

52 Pickup: Picking up where we left off
The NBA Source — ... Friday’s attempt to take an advantage on Team TAB was no cigar.  Since I started this experiment with a “do it first, figure it out later” mentality, I hope the weekend away has helped.  We shall see… As for that infamous Friday, the results were a lousy 3-8.  I got the obvious Suns over Wizards and Celtics over Raptors right, as well as the Sixers over the Knicks.  The rest…not so good.  The Picksix won the day with a 5-6 performance.  I’m now 10-15 overall, while the Picksix is sitting at 153-147 after two 3-4 performances over the weekend. Here are the picks for Monday, ...

52 Pickup: Looking to close the gap
MVN Outsider — ... The Picksix went with me on the first four picks, but it all came down to the Bucks playing in Sacramento.  I went with the hometown Kings.  The Picksix went with the Bucks and got 3.5 points.  The Kings won the game, but only by three lousy points.  Ugh! ...

52 Pickup: Up the creek, no paddles
MVN Outsider — ... The losing continues for the 52PU.  Hey, I’m in Philadelphia, so I’m used to starting slow.  If I’m to pick up any stream, the current will have to take me there.  I’m just trying to stay afloat and keep from drowning.  A winning night would help.  Forget Boof and Co , I’m losing the battle of myself!  At least they tied me Tuesday night with a 3-5 performance. Here are my best guesses for Wednesday: Dallas (-3.5) over TORONTO  - Good news: T.J. Ford is okay.  Bad news: Mavs come to town.  ( Team TAB agrees ). PHILADELPHIA (-7.5) over Minnesota - Al Jefferson has been playing ...

52 Pickup: When off nights happen
MVN Outsider — ... I’m taking a mulligan on yesterday’s 52PU performance.  With a 3-8 record on the night from Team TAB, I thought I missed a golden opportunity with a 2-9 performance of my own.  I’m nearly the point where Picksix drew it’s name: ...

Ping Pong Balls In Short Supply In Portland
CelticsBlog - NBA Section — "Nooooooooooo!" screams my boy Acks Minakyan after another victory for his beloved Portland Trail Blazers."Which part of 'Ping Pong Ball!' don't KP and Nate understand? Ping Pong Ball, I tell you! Ping Pong Ball!" A co-author of the NBA PIcksix and, more importantly, some sort of combo Blazer-Knick diehard fan, Minakyan has long since adopted "Ping Pong Ball!" as his slogan for the 2007-08 campaign in Portland. The man nearly had to be hospitalized when Greg Oden's rookie season was cut short after a sum total of zero games played, and he has spent every minute since ...

52 Pickup: Saving the season
The NBA Source — ... After debating in my mind the purpose of my presence on this site, I’m resuming tonight’s punishment…I mean, the 52 Pickup.  If you are new to this feature, this is where I attempt to battle the Picksix for bragging rights.  I’ve gone 2-4-1 head to head against Team TAB so far.  Last Thursday’s TNT tilt was a 1-1 performance, only after the Lakers just barely cleared the point spread.  However, I conceded victory to Boof and Co on the Wizards spanking of the Heat. ...

52 Pickup: When 4×4 happens
The NBA Source — ... Last night, the 52PU went 4-4 to break even on the night.  Boof and Co took the evening with a 6-2 performance.  There’s only three games on tap tonight, so let’s get to it: ...

52 Pickup: Picking NBA games vs. Family wrapping presents
The NBA Source — ... This edition of the 52 Pickup leaves the deck a little late.  I went 3-7 last night, while the Picksix went 7-3.  The Mavs and Nuggets won, but missed the cover by one point.  Here are my picks for Saturday, December 22nd: ...

nypost.com 12/6/2007 — December 6, 2007 -- Jason Kidd was "on strike," last night several team sources claimed, and he essentially called in sick, perhaps in an effort to force a trade from the Nets or get a contract extension. Coach Lawrence Frank said Kidd phoned him complaining of a migraine yesterday at about 2 p.m. Kidd never showed for last night's 100-93 defeat against the Knicks, also short-handed, in ...
