So much for that new age rule. Overheated press reports before today's joint NBA-NCAA news conference in San Antonio had NBA Commissioner David Stern and NCAA President Myles Brand about to announce a deal requiring college players to stay for two seasons instead of one. This was not only in error -- there's no deal, nor was one discussed -- but missed a fundamental point: This isn't between ... (link)

... up to increase the League’s age limit by forcing guys to stay in college an additional year, there was quite a bit of hand-wringing yesterday, and I would say quite justifiably so. ... (one year removed from high school) another year (two removed). But as it turns out, this is not something that will happen in the near future. The current rule was put into effect in 2005 (Martell Webster being one of the last drafted straight from high school) and is set to run through the 2010-11 NBA season, per the collective bargaining agreement. Stern was originally looking to set it at 20. I don't have a problem with the NBA, and the NCAA, wanting to run the best business possible, putting the best product available on the court. What I do have a problem with is ...
