BENGALS BAIL ON IRONS
Published 7/25/2008 by Mike Florio at ProFootballTalk.com
Earlier this year, the Bengals cut the cord on a third-round pick from 2005 who couldn’t properly behave off the field. The team now is cutting loose a second-rounder from 2007 who never got a chance to do much on the field. The team has announced that running back Kenny Iron was waived after failing a physical. Last year, he suffered a serious knee injury during the preseason opener. The Bengals could have placed Irons on the Physically Unable to Perform list, but he would have counted against the 80-man roster. He’ll be entitled to receive up to $275,000 if no other team ...

... In a somewhat unexpected move, the Bengals waived Kenny Irons after failing his physical on Friday in an effort to get the club's roster down to the maximum allowed 80 players. ... The Bengals have secured Andrew Whitworth through 2013 after a four-year extension was agreed in principle on Friday, Geoff Hobson writes. The agreement includes incentives with new money that could total "as much as $30 million". Whitworth, a natural tackled who played for the injured Levi Jones at left tackle during his rookie 2006 season, played left guard after Eric Steinbach departed for browner pastures. ...
Saturday morning links and notes -- Tressel responds to Palmer
Published 7/26/2008 by Kirkendall at Cincy Jungle: Front Page Posts
Word is that the Bengals have secured all their draft picks except for first-round selection, Keith Rivers.
Jim Tressel reacts to Carson Palmer's comments (seriously, did you expect Tressel to say ANYTHING?):
"It just tells you one thing, he's proud of the place he played and he lives with us in Ohio and I'm sure he gets to hear a lot about the Buckeyes," Tressel said. "And I'm sure he's excited about the fact that we get to play against his alma mater and you know Woody used to always say, 'whether they're talking good or talking ...
