Rumor: Murray Chass Riding His New-Age Horseless Carriage Into the Sunset
Published 4/3/2008 by Junior at FIRE JOE MORGAN
Did we contribute, in some minuscule, 0.000000001% way to Murray Chass allegedly being bought out by the New York Times? The Big Lead is reporting Chass' impending departure. The news, of course, will take a few days to reach Murray, as he depends solely on the Pony Express for communication (the Postal Service, he maintains, is a passing fad that he won't abide). ...

Murray Chass Bought Out; Hates Bloggers
Published 4/4/2008 by Eamonn Brennan at FanHouse
Filed under: New York, MLB Media WatchThe Big Lead reported today that longtime New York Times baseball columnist Murray Chass is taking an involuntary buyout, which is almost entirely sad. It's a tough dawn in the newspaper industry; buyouts for older staffers are a regrettable, if suddenly inevitable, fact of life, but that doesn't make them any more appealing. So here's where, normally, I'd rip on Murray Chass for being closeminded and silly, and for letting his column quality drift dramatically in recent years, but in ...

The Big Lead: Newspaper Buyouts Come in Threes Or...how Murray Chass finally got tossed out of Mnook-in High. Somebody, somewhere, once stated that major events happen in threes, and in the sports newspaper world, a sad trifecta is about to take place: On the heels of Chicago Tribune NBA encyclopedia Sam Smith taking a buyout, and Boston Globe sports staple Jackie MacMullan doing the same, multiple sources tell us that venerable New York Times baseball scribe Murray Chass is in the final stages of accepting a buyout. Multiple sources say that Chass’s impending departure is ...
Friday Brain Dump

... 2000 season and he was an absolute stud in the NLCS against the Cardinals. He was also kind enough to leave the Mets for the clear skies and superior schools of Colorado, leaving the Mets with a lousy sandwich pick they wasted on some bum. Hampton as done practically doodily-squat since then, turning in a decent year for the Braves in 2003 and otherwise pitching either horribly or infrequently or both. Anyway, thanks, Mike.

... Brantley look very, very silly: I'm normally not much of a Thom Brennaman fan, but he at least does his best to combat the incredibly aggressive stream of stupidity that's flowing from his broadcast partner. This seems like a dream job, but I'm told that the benefits package is lacking. After sitting through an angry, anti-blogger diatribe by recently bought-out New York Times columnist Murray Chass, Jon ...

We won’t have Murray Chass to kick around anymore (maybe…)

... Not surprisingly, I’ve gotten lots of emails about the news that Murray Chass might have been nudged out the door at the Times. This would undoubtedly be a good thing for the sportswriting profession, as well as for anyone who regularly reads the Times’ sports section. (Just last week I had lunch with a longtime baseball scribe who said, more or less unprompted, that Chass was the worst sportswriter in the country…maybe ever.) ...

... in about 10 feet before the 2006 season. Based on how well the Padres used Petco Park to their advantage last year, I’d be reluctant to change the configuration. The Padres accounted for 61.5% of all home runs hit in their own park in 2007, which was the highest mark in the big leagues. They’d never done anything like that before, but assuming they can keep it up, I’m happy with the dimensions.
