I have a friend (who now works at SI) who interned there for a year, and he said that the place was filled with generous, solid people -- Sabol included.

Willy-nilly lay-offs ... it doesn't sound like NFL Films' style.

That said, the NFL has been printing money for decades, they couldn't subsidize the company during these hard times? If the NBA can keep the WNBA around for over a decade, what's the NFL's excuse?

This is a Roger Goodell move. The current NFL commissioner laid off a ton of people right before he took over office, cleaning out entire departments. He laid off the 50+ member publishing group right before NFL Network started.

There will be more NFL layoffs coming up in the near future. Just watch.
