Oakland Raiders @ Denver Broncos -- Who Has The Advantage
The Mile High Report — ... almost 47 yards a punt to help as well. Shane Lechler is probably the best in the league, but Janakowski is only hitting 75% of his FGs and only 2-6 from 50+ with his big leg. Advantage:  Broncos.  Matt Prater has been hitting the tough FGs and Kern has been doing great punting the ball as well. My Prediction:  Broncos 38-10.  The Broncos will dominate all areas of the game and will get the win!  Go Broncos! ...

49ers-Cowboys: Final Injury Report
Niners Nation — ... Newman practiced Wednesday and yesterday but was a DNP today.  If the Cowboys are a little cocky, maybe they'll think it's a game they should win so why not rest Newman.  Anything to improve the matchup for Hill, right? I'll throw up a more explanatory post next week, but the linked graphic below will take you to the central SB Nation hub for all things NFL.  The network also has a similar hub for the race for the BCS Title.  Enjoy.

Can somebody give me an SB Nation Football Hub, please?

Stampede Blue — ... defense stunk it up. People can run on them, and will continue to run on them until they stop it. Despite the loss though, they are still one of the best teams in the AFC right now. It will be interesting to see if they blame the game on officiating (which was good) or the crappy play of their defense (which seem exposed). And Brett Favre? He was brilliant, per usual. For the late game, be sure to open a new tab to SB Nation's NFL Scoreboard hub, linked below.

Windy City Gridiron — ... Do the Bears just eat hiscontract next year and let him just focus on returns?  If they address the wide out position that could be a possibility?  I suppose we will talk about that in the off season.  In the meantime Hester had a good day on the offense.  The Bears used him a lot of different ways in the first quarter.  They executed a reverse and a little wildcat and both were successful.  He ended with 5 catches for 40 yards and 2 rushes for 32. 'Kudos & Wet Willies,' Domenik Hixon edition
Big Blue View — ... The Giants have won six straight, five against teams with winning records. That is only the second time in NFL history that has been done. Jimmie Johnson -- yes, Jimmie Johnson -- summed it up perfectly in his FOX Sports column this morning. This is a special team, one that is pretty serious about defending their championship. Niners Nation — ... make the play they need.  Eli Manning has become a rock they can count on, as has the offensive line, and the pass rush (again, despite the loss of stars -- Strahan and Umenyiora). What’s more, if they are healthy come playoff time, these backups will have the experience and confidence from already playing important minutes. That, and the invaluable experience gained during last year’s run, I believe makes the Giants the odds-on favorite to repeat.  BILL WALSH MEMORIAL GENIUS AWARD: Mike Smith is no ...

New York Jets 34 Tennessee Titans 13: The Recap
Music City Miracles — ... will be 13-1 heading into the 2 tough games to end the season.  You hear the coaches and players talk all the time about the 24 hour rule.  If anyone can get them re-focused it is Jeff Fisher.  This loss is the worst thing that could have happened for the Detroit Lions.  I look forward to a Thanksgiving Massacre in Detroit. With run game clicking, Bills offense is scoring
Buffalo Rumblings — ... losses proved that. But he can also make plays on a consistent basis, as he's proven during the good times this season. This whole season is about Edwards. Playoffs in 2008 or not, building up Trent is the biggest necessity for the long-term viability of the franchise. Turk has done a masterful job of it over the last seven quarters of football. With the run game clicking again, the sky is the limit for this offense. Now we just need to do it against good teams.

Acme Packing Company — ... Martin gets the nod over Jones this week. I don't know what that nonsense about "WR Jordy Nelson will see time in the slot with Jones out." Nelson has been ahead of Jones all of 2008. Thompson is still out with a groin injury. Again this week they've kept only two RBs active and Wynn is inactive. The big news is that RB Reggie Bush is again inactive. He's been almost back from injury the past two weeks. It looks like the Saints will have to wait another week.  ...

Have a Happy Thanksgiving
Acme Packing Company — ... This year, I'm only going to be allowed to watch football on Thanksgiving if the toddlers are taking a nap. Otherwise, it's all Wall E and Curious George on the TV in my household. But I'm not sure I want to watch either of these games. Watching Detroit play under any circumstances is an endurance test. I'm not a fan of the Cowboys, obviously, so that game doesn't hold a lot of interest either. Especially since Seattle should be easy pickings. What do you think?   Poll Which game are you looking ...

(BleacherReport.com) That's really all there is for now folks, I'll try and find more ASAP.

Early Thanksgiving day games open thread
Bleeding Green Nation — Happy Thanksgiving everyone! The most lopsided matchup of the year takes place at 1pm where the one loss Titans visit the winless Lions. Then at 4 an equally crappy matchup kicks off in Dallas as the 2-9 Seahawks head down to Dallas to face the Cowboys. 4pm might be a good time for dinner. Just a suggestion. :)

Preview: Carolina at Green Bay
Acme Packing Company — ... At least we can expect a big game for RB Ryan Grant. The Packers need to get an early lead and make Carolina throw the ball. They also need to keep running the ball, so they can't get too far behind and expect to throw it against a great Panther secondary. It looks like it will be cold and wet on Sunday which I would expect to help the home team. I don't know what to expect, but I just want to see them play hard and bounce back from a lousy loss. ...

Niners Nation — ... Jets blogs. Sorry but I love these, absolutely love them. With this post going up early I'm probably missing a few 3AM/6AM links but I'll definitely be on at 3 sharp to search. Niners Nation — ... (about 15 seconds in). It’s the football equivalent of kicking a guy in the nuts (although some football players do that, too), but I’m not sure Allen has too much room to criticize. Still, he did charge Cherilus before being held back, and the tensions led to former Lion FB (and former 49er) Moran Norris being ejected for punching Vikings LB Napoleon Harris. Expect some more discussion about this throughout the week. BAD BRAD: The Jets might want to re-consider employing plays ...

BTSC's Take On The NFL Home Stretch
Behind the Steel Curtain — We keep the flavor pretty Steelers heavy here on BTSC, with the occasional AFC North coverage mixed in. But with just three weeks left in the regular season and a number of playoff berths clinched this week, now's a good time to share some of my thoughts on the rest of the league. Jump on in with yours. * Know how the AFC has been considered the dominant conference for basically this entire decade? Well, I don't think it's the case anymore. I don't have the time or inclination at the moment to make a legitimate case, but look at this past Sunday. ...

Golden Nuggets: Just sign Clayton, please!
Niners Nation — ... This week's Team Issued features Joe Staley. (49ers.com) May as well go vote for Vernon Davis for the pro bowl--even though he wont get in on receptions everyone seems pretty set on calling him a great blocker. (49ers.com) Thomas Clayton apparently thought Martz hated him. (But Martz is a huge fan, apparently.) (49ers.com) Here's yesterdays edition of Singletary's Notebook. (49ers.com) That's all for now. Shaun Hill nominated for NFL FedEx Air Player of the Week
Niners Nation — ... Shaun Hill has been nominated for the NFL Fed Ex Air Player of the Week.  He's squaring off against Matt Schaub and Jay Cutler for the award. Hill was 28 of 39 for 285 yards and two touchdowns. Hill is actually the first 49ers QB to be nominated for the award this season.  Considering he was without Frank Gore in the second half I'd say it was quite the impressive performance. Head on over when you get a chance and vote for Hill.

Sunday football open thread
Bleeding Green Nation —   There's two major matchups of interest to Eagles fans today. The big one is Tampa Bay at the Atlanta Falcons. A Falcon loss today is all the Eagles need to regain full control over their own destiny. If Atlanta loses and the Eagles win out they absolutely will be in the playoffs. So, go Bucs! The other game of interest is of course the Sunday night division battle in Dallas between the Cowboys and Giants. The Eagles don't need Dallas to lose since a win over them in week 17 would vault them over the Cowboys ...

How Did The Packers Beat Chicago Back In November?
Acme Packing Company — ... My best explanation for what happened back in November was that the defense showed up. LB A.J. Hawk looked good in his first game at middle linebacker (he hasn't looked any good since). S Atari Bigby was still healthy and CB Charles Woodson hadn't been moved over to replace him yet. Chicago only had one offensive drive for more than 29 yards. It was also RB Ryan Grant's best game of the season; and he's looked lousy (Houston game excepted) since then. ...

Acme Packing Company — ... an explosion of mistakes by either team, this should be a close game with more FG attempts then TDs scored. Both teams should have trouble on offense. Turnovers, penalties, and mistakes on special teams should be the big plays of the game. I expect the Packers to lose, since that is all they've done lately. Friday Injury Report for Week 16 at Chicago
Acme Packing Company — ... Clifton, Jackson, Woodson, and Harris are certain to play, barring some change over the weekend. Giacomini is never active while Harrell is never healthy, so neither player would make a difference. Humphrey seems to have fallen behind rookie TE Jermichael Finley to 3rd TE, so he doesn't play a major role either. I really hope FB Korey Hall makes it back. AFC Playoffs Are Just About Set
Behind the Steel Curtain — ... Diego (the likely winner tonight) will have won 4 in a row. The Ravens have won 5 of their past 6 and 9 of their past 11, making them a #6 seed that nobody's eager to face. And last but not least, the Steelers have won 6 of 7. This is not a top heavy bracket like it has been in recent years, but it sure is filled with teams trending in the right direction. Outside of Denver, I'm not sure I would write off any of those 7 team's chances at making a Super Bowl. More soon.

Niners Nation — ... Dolphins won to complete their amazing revival, going from a team which lost its division by a record 15 games last year to a team which won it this year. As for the Pats, they'll just have to take their shiny 11-5 record and go home for the winter. I'm sure they won't be the least bit annoyed that the Chargers will be hosting a playoff game with their 8-8 record. In fact, I'll bet Bill Belichick is chuckling at the irony of the whole situation right now.   SPEAKING OF FAVRE...: On Sunday, Brett Favre ended his season ...

NFC Wild Card Action; Arizona 30, Atlanta 24
Acme Packing Company — ... this was a bad matchup for Atlanta. Their pass defense is average, and Arizona's pass offense is outstanding. It was asking a lot from their defense to stop them all game. And Arizona's run defense is average, but they were up to the challenge when playing at home against a slightly overrated Atlanta run offense. QB Matt Ryan had a good game, but made some rookie mistakes (i.e. taking a safety in the 4th quarter) and it was asking a lot for him to carry the team to a victory. ...

AFC Wild Card Madness: Colts 17, Bolts 23 (OT)

Bleeding Green Nation — The divisional round of the NFL playoffs kicks off today with two games on the schedule. At 4:30 today the Baltimore Ravens travel to Tennessee to take on the AFC's top seeded Titans. Like all 4 games this weekend, it's a rematch with the Titans winning 13-10 in Baltimore earlier this season. AFC Playoffs: Baltimore 13, Tennessee 10
Acme Packing Company — ... fewer plays then Tennessee. But QB Joe Flacco wasn't sacked and didn't turn the ball over. They made Tennessee work the length of the field and commit 3 turnovers while trying to do it. Flacco also got some major help from the refs by missing a key delay of game penalty on the game winning drive. He'll get a lot of positive press for playing so well as a rookie who doesn't make any mistakes in a vanilla offensive scheme, but Baltimore's defense is taking them to the Super Bowl. ...

Hope this gives them their comeuppance, and that next time they show some respect for their betters. As for the Cardinalss v. the Panthers, Arizona is dominating Carolina now. Jake Delhomme just threw at pick on the 2 yard line, and former Colt Edgerrin James is running all over the Panthers D. This is your open thread.

NFC Playoffs: Arizona Crushes Carolina, 33-13
Acme Packing Company — ... 5 INTs and a fumble. I wasn't the only one expecting Carolina's offense to have a good Saturday night: WHEN THE PANTHERS HAVE THE BALL This is where Carolina has the advantage on Arizona. Open Thread: Divisional Playoffs, Saturday 1/11
Turf Show Times — ... games today to decide the conference championship lineup. On top of my strike out on the Cardinals prediction, I was shocked to see the Titans go down as well. Yeah, you can blame the missed delay of game penalty, but they made their fair share of mistakes too. Credit B-more's defense;they made the stops when it mattered despite the box score numbers favoring the Titans, except for the turnovers. A missed field goal never helps either, as Rams fans know all too well.

(PressDemocrat.com) And a summary of the Shrine Bowl from a scout on the official website. (49ers.com) Barrows takes a look at a few of the upcoming draft prospects the Niners need to look at. (SacBee.com) And we go to head to head again where two 49ers players pick the playoff winners. (49ers.com)

Steelers Offensive Line Had Solid Outing Last Time Out Against Baltimore
Behind the Steel Curtain — ... only 13 points and gave up 3 sacks for the day, the offensive line was again criticized as being the weak link behind the offense. There's some truth to that, but it doesn't tell the whole story. The first two Ravens sacks came on stunts drawn up by Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan. The first sent Ray Lewis free up the middle; the second sent both Lewis and Ed Reed up the middle. Let's take a look at both of them and see who the guilty party was on each play. Sack #1 In the frame above, I have ...

ANY GIVEN FRIDAY: Championship Week Odds & Ends
Niners Nation — ... favored in their game on the road, playing a team they beat 48-20 in the regular season. Baltimore is a road dog, but they played Pittsburgh very tough in both their matchups this year (more on this later).  Of course, arguments for both home teams as well -- Arizona is hot and has played very well at home, and Pittsburgh is the top remaining seed and is 2-0 vs. the Ravens this year. So, what say you, Niners Nation? Who do you think will be playing in the big game? Philadelphia (11-6-1) at Arizona (11-7) LIGHTNING ...

Golden Nuggets: More Shaun Hill, please.
Niners Nation — ... Here's a look at the playoffs from the official website. What to Watch For. (49ers.com) Are the Yorks looking for new investors? They say no but I think yes. (MercuryNews.com) Our great and benevolent overlord dictator head coach* Fooch has asked me to let you guys know that he'll be doing 'a bit of a live blog' of the Shrine game today at 1 PM PST so you should definitely check in for that.

Golden Nuggets: The Lone Nugget
Niners Nation — ... any rate, enjoy you eh... nugget. Wow so if I learned anything from this Q&A; its that Barrows is one of those "Omg you must type correctly or I'm better than you people." Huh. (SacBee.com) ^ That's your news--no seriously, its all I've got today. Its your nugget. Take it, love it. Of course you could look at the Chronicles take at the two championship games today. AFC and NFC. (SFGate.com) Will definitely update if news arises.

Niners Nation — ... Curtain How many times will we hear how these two teams really don't like each other?  How many ways can the pregame crew and the announcers predict a smash-mouth type of game?  I think the cliches will be truly free-flowin.  I think the Ravens pull off the upset.  Flacco could completely crap the bed, but the Ravens have done a good job of keeping out of situations where Flacco has to do too much.  We'll see if they can keep it up.

Music City Miracles — ... the Birds AFC (5:30 central on CBS) Ravens- Baltimore Beatdown Steelers- Behind the Steel Curtain I am not even sure what to type here.  Use this thread to disucss the two championship games taking place today.  I probably won't watch much of either of them, but I will be pulling for the Steelers this Sunday with the same enthusiasm I have when watching the Titans. 2008 NFL Playoffs: AFC Championship Game- Open Thread
Stampede Blue — ... Kevin Curtis, who was interfered with. No call. Unlike Ron Winter in our playoff game this year, who handed San Diego a key third down conversion in OT on a bogus pass interference call, the refs in this game swallowed their whistles. Officiating in 2008 has been just. utterly. dreadful. So, the Arizona Cardinals are in the Super Bowl. Edgerrin James is in the Super Bowl. Now, we await the AFC Champs. This is your open thread for the AFC Championship Game.

AFC and NFC Championship Games Roundup
Acme Packing Company — ... who “troll” over on this site to rub it in. Doubt I’ll sleep well tonite. Oh, and RELEASE JOE FLACCO: May seem harsh to you all but I mean it, this man has played like crap in the playoffs. I honestly would have prefered Kyle Boller in that post season game. He may not be consistent but at least the man can throw the deep ball. A QB Kyle Boller fan? I think this was posted by Brian Billick.

Golden Nuggets: Well that... that was unexpected.
Niners Nation — ... go from here? I'm unsure but I don't agree with all this "Well whoever we hire is the second choice how will they feel blah blah..." I see that only mattering if we hire one of the other two already interviewed. If we interview someone else and hire them then its more of a "Hey, we thought too fast. You're a better candidate. Win some k?" You see? Problem solved, I don't like that WR coach and that guy with the funny name anyway. (49ersNews.com) That's all for now.

Niners Nation — ... the teams and again picked the Cards last. Again, in the poll, you did as well -- they got two votes out of 210 cast. So I thought I'd give us a chance to explain ourselves. What happened? Were the Cards lucky to play the right teams at the right time and avoid cold weather? We were we stupid? Or was it just that unpredictable? Has parity made the NFL playoffs such a crapshoot that any team can get hot and run the table? Am I asking too many questions?   EASY AS 1-2-3: Pittsburgh’s third win over Baltimore this ...

Golden Nuggets: 'Personal reasons' my foot...
Niners Nation — ... a break. I think Robinson is a great player but a terrible fit for FB right now. (RootZoo.com) Here's a few points from the senior bowl practices. (RotoWorld.com) And another report from day one. (SportsIllustrated.com) This doesn't affect the Niners at all, but I know the hit on Willis McGahee scared me and in case it scared some of you, he is expected to make a full recovery. (ESPN.com) That's what I've got for you right now.

Golden Nuggets: Clueless Again
Niners Nation — ... Jed York sits down with CBS for an interview on the 'future of the 49ers' which it really doesn't cover but its interesting nonetheless. (CBS.com) Barrows checks in from the Senior Bowl again. (SacBee.com) And more on the senior bowl from an area scout on the official website. (49ers.com) The 49ers are stuck in neutral. Really? I thought a coaching search should be thorough. (MercuryNews.com) That's really all for now.

Golden Nuggets: Take that pay cut, Alex Smith.
Niners Nation — ... former 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo would be interested in buying the Tampa Bay Buccaneers if they were for sale. Huh. (ProFootballTalk.com) This article talks about hiring a family member to your staff, in regards to the head coach doing so. How do you feel about this? I think Singletary is the man who'd have it in him to fire his family member if he didn't produce, but then again Vantz doesn't look like he has a huge role anyway. (ProFootballTalk.com)

Golden Nuggets: [site decorum] is right, Fooch. Its what I said, at least.
Niners Nation — ... always seems to cite, you know, that no other sites report on. Either way, did we spend too much money on Nate Clements and Justin Smith? (ProFootballWeekly.com) So Alex Smith has been throwing for two weeks and is regaining strength in his arm. (SacBee.com) Layoffs could be coming to the 49ers. (ProFootballTalk.com) And wow, this doesn't have to do with the Niners but holy... I want it, I just do. (BehindTheSteelCurtain.com)

Golden Nuggets: Fine, Linehan is off the hook. (Until we play the Lions)
Niners Nation — ... kickoff return for a touchdown with the Buccaneers. (SacBee.com) There was a bit about this yesterday, and its only a random thought thrown out by Schefter--but are the Niners angling for Mike Vick? (NFL.com) Barrows says there are three players worthy of our tenth overall pick in the draft. (SacBee.com) Here's yesterday's fan Q&A with Scot McCloughan. McCloughan's Mailbag. 49ers.com) That's all that's going on right now.

Golden Nuggets: No on Reeves and no on Vick, says I.
Niners Nation — ... some thoughts. Either way, still funny. (PressDemocrat.com) Where are they now? A look at where the 1981 championship team is now. (SFGate.com) We almost played the Raiders once in the Super Bowl--but it didn't happen. I kind of wish it had. (SacBee.com) Barrows recaps the Senior Bowl (kind of.) (SacBee.com) He also thinks the Niners will NOT be pursuing Vick. This is good. (SacBee.com) That's all I've got for now.

Golden Nuggets: Please no shared stadium... please?
Niners Nation — ... some links. So the NFL has "encouraged" the 49ers organization to work with the Raiders in building a stadium together. Ugh.. (ProFootballTalk.com) Barrows hosts another Q&A. (Thomas Clayton gets some love yesssss!) (SacBee.com) Maiocco has one as well. (PressDemocrat.com) Should we look into signing Houshmandzadeh from free agency? (MVN.com) So what does the signing of CB Williams give us? (Examiner.com)

Golden Nuggets: Silly Fooch, quit messing with PFT.
Niners Nation — ... Mark Purdy seems to think the shared stadium is a possibility. Really? Of course its a possibility, which is why its continued to be rumored... the reason we "shoot it down" is because regardless of whether or not its possible its simply ludicrous from a.) a fan standpoint, and b.) a player standpoint. They really seem to NOT like eachother. (MercuryNews.com) Raiders fans are getting a bit of.. disapproval from the folks of Santa Clara. (MercuryNews.com)

Golden Nuggets: No more rants... after today.
Niners Nation — ... 49ers WR Billy Wilson passed away yesterday. (NinersNation.com) Here's the link on that from Maiocco. (PressDemocrat.com) The shared stadium just wont work, I don't feel it will and I'm already sick of the issue. (SFGate.com) So the Houshmandzadeh thing is a full-blown rumor now. Would Jackson enable us a better chance at getting Housh if he is hired as our OC? Do we want him? (MercuryNews.com) That's all I've got for now.

Golden Nuggets: So, Raye then? "Hmm" is all I can muster.
Niners Nation — ... to remain the 49ers DC through 2010. (PressDemocrat.com) Here's the latest McCloughan's Mailbag. (49ers.com) There were rumors of Manusky going to Dallas, well here's a bit on that from Barrows. (SacBee.com) Raye is being met with... less than sterllar enthusiasm. (MercuryNews.com) I actually found quite a few articles showing much rage at the Raye hiring, but I'll not post them as its less than news and more of "AUGH."

Golden Nuggets: Buzzkill sound right? Not sure yet.
Niners Nation — ... players. I just cant convince myself to be swayed just yet. (MercuryNews.com) Does buzzkill sound right to you? (MercuryNews.com) Barrows says the offense will be revamped under Raye. (SacBee.com) He also got a chance to talk to Raye, more on that here. (SacBee.com) Walt Harris and Haralson pick the Super Bowl in Head to Head. (49ers.com) The 49ers signed WR Maurice Price to a future contract. (49ers.com)

ANY GIVEN FRIDAY: Super Bowlin'
Niners Nation — ... bad enough to be deemed unprofessional. All that being said, if Boldin’s a great player, and will give his all in the Super Bowl. If his problems with Arizona management force a trade, I don’t see too many WR-needy teams who would balk at acquiring him over something like this. But he could still use a productive game vs. Pittsburgh to wipe the bad taste of this incident from people’s mouths. After the jump, I'll get to the game.   Arizona (12-7) vs. Pittsburgh (14-4) WILD CARDS: ...

Golden Nuggets: Raye of... hope?
Niners Nation — ... enjoyment?) So Raye has officially signed a contract. (SFGate.com) Maiocco provides a lot of information from a conference call with Raye and Singletary yesterday. Golden Nuggets: Super Bowl, need I say more?
Niners Nation — ... has asked the 49ers and the Raiders to share a stadium. (SFGate.com) Barrows hosts another Q&A concerning the state of the Niners. Niners Nation — ... Hill says he didn't want to watch the super bowl--judging by how he sounded, I doubt he did. (SFGate.com) So not like its news to you, but the Steelers came up with a huge win yesterday. (SFGate.com) Please no shared stadium, I haven't much else to say other than that.
