NFL Preview - Week 10
SportsHubLA —
Saints (4-4) at Falcons (5-3) — Sunday, 10:00 a.m. PST, FOX One possible reason the Falcons are off to a surprising 5-win start, Roddy White no longer eats three or four No. 2 combos from McDonald’s . Another reason, they’re balanced offensively and becoming stingier by the week on defense. Saying they shut down the Raiders last week is an understatement, they held the Silver and Black to -2 yards in the first half. But this week will be a different test, the Saints, who’re 6th in the NFL in scoring ( 27 ppg ), are rested and happy after returning from London with a win and a bye. Although Reggie Bush (knee) was officially ruled out, coach Sean ...
Audibles at the Line: Week 10
Football Outsiders —
compiled by Doug Farrar and Vince Verhei Each Sunday, the FO staff sends around e-mails to each other, both during and after the games. It lets us share ideas for columns and comments, and get an idea of how teams that we can't watch are playing. Be aware that the material in this roundtable might seem a bit disjointed and un-edited. It also might still show up later in the week in other columns, or in comments in PFP 2009 . Games are chosen based on our own personal viewing preferences, and are going to reflect the teams we support and the cities where we live. Thursday, November 6 Denver Broncos 34 at Cleveland Browns 30 Vince Verhei: Josh Cribbs doesn't get nearly ...
Adrian Peterson Over 1,000 Yards
Every Morning Quarterback —
... stride after a “slow” start — 563 rushing yards and four touchdowns in his last four games.
Of course, more important than eying Eric Dickerson’s record, AD gained more total yards (225) than the entire Green Bay offense and scored the game winning touchdown with 2:22 to play. The win tied the Vikings with the Chicago Bears for first place in the NFC North and kept head coach Brad Childress off the hot seat after beginning the season 1-3.

MONDAY SUCK-OFF: THE LOSERS EARN IT
With Leather - Sports news and gossip, panda sex, and the occasional Toonces the driving cat Photoshop —
By my count, there were five games yesterday in which the team that had been outplayed most of the game had a chance to win or tie in the final two minutes — and all five lost.
The Eagles got run over by Brandon Jacobs & Co. (Philly had the ball for only 20 minutes the whole game), but still had a chance to win late. Then Andy Reid called for a pair of unimaginative runs up the middle on third- and fourth-and-short, and that was that. 36-31, Giants.
You play to win the game: a flubbed PAT earlier in the game meant the Chiefs could only tie after scoring a late TD (thanks to a BS pass interference penalty) that put them ...
PACKERS-VIKINGS ONE-LINERS

Packers K Mason Crosby missed a 52-yard field goal wide right as time expired , letting the Vikings escape with a one-point win. Said Vikings RB Adrian Peterson, “That’s what it’s all about. We came in, knew it was going to be a dogfight , and we pulled it out.” Peterson was fired up all day.“ Great to beat those people ,” said Vikings coach Brad Childress after the game. The Packers’ offensive line couldn’t protect QB Aaron Rodgers. Vikings DE Jared Allen played through the pain in his shoulder and had a big game. Packers backup MLB Desmond Bishop got a lot of playing time with Nick Barnett hurt. Packers coach Mike ...

Analyzing The Run Defense, Part 1
Acme Packing Company —
My apologies to everyone for being incommunicado for the past two weeks. After the semester ended, I journeyed back to Milwaukee for the holiday, then returned to New Jersey for the New Year celebration (which consisted of two mimosas and going to bed at 12:30. I am an old man.) But, then again, it hasn't been very busy for the Packers lately, so that's how I rationalize my absence. Take that, guilty conscience!
In all seriousness, this time of year is always the toughest for teams who underachieved their way out of the playoff hunt. For some, it is chock-full of news-worthy events, be it the firing of a coach who deserved ...
