Saints coach Sean Payton said after the game that despite the team’s record, he has nothing but respect for the Lions’ coaching staff. The Suck-Off exists to celebrate the worst in the NFL every week, but I can’t help but tip my cap (cap, propeller-beanie, same thing) to the Giants and Titans, who both secured home-field advantage throughout the playoffs with hard-nosed victories over the toughest opponents each conference had to offer.
But enough of this success thing — I mean, the Jets screwed themselves out of a playoff spot by losing to the lowly Seahawks! Mmmm-mm! That is some delicious sucking. A robust choke flavor, with a bouquet of Favre interceptions and a bitter finish. Excellent vintage.

When we signed Dan Orlovsky, I was actually a little excited. I thought he was a solid young quarterback who could develop into a good pro. Besides, we only needed him as a backup. Hopefully he’ll never do more than hold a clipboard and start week 17 games because we clinched our playoff spot weeks ago. Still, reaction by mainstream media was, how shall I say this, less than complimentary. Don Banks of SI.com called it the worst signing of the offseason, Peter King said there’s no basis to suggest that he’s a decent QB, and Paul Kuharsky just couldn’t get past the running-out-of-the-endzone play.
