Six is a bit much given the offence, but there's no question Avery's gotten off sans punishment for an awful lot of nonsense over the years. My guess is he'll be staying out of the limelight for the near future.

Trying to maim someone on the ice with a vicious hit from behind? 2-3 games, tops. Making an inappropriate comment about an ex-girlfriend while being Sean Avery? 6 games. Giving FHF another lame excuse to post hot chicks? Priceless.
Avery suspended for 6 games
Waiting For Stanley —
5 games for insulting a hollywood celebrity and 1 for hurting Dion Phaneuf's feelings. I kid. Avery must have put on some serious acting skills (maybe even showing some tears). From TSN: Avery also agreed to seek professional anger-management evaluation and, if necessary, structured counseling in light of his pattern of behavior, which the NHL has deemed unacceptable and antisocial behavior. Avery will not be eligible to play again for the Stars until Dec. 16, when Dallas hosts the Phoenix Coyotes. "Mr. Avery has expressed remorse for his recent comments and has sought a professional anger management evaluation," NHL ...

There were rumors that Avery might get as many as ten games, but considering the NHL gives out two game suspensions for hitting from behind or hits to the head, a six-game suspension is pretty harsh. It is clear to me that the ...
Thoughts on Avery and other things.
Greatest Hockey Legends.com —
Sean Avery gets a 6 game suspension from the NHL, although it appears that the Dallas Stars are looking to banish him for much longer . Although they might have trouble burying him in the minor leagues . Enough about Avery. The last couple of years in New York he was a decent player, but his sideshow tactics have more than eliminated that. Now he is a marginal player, and worse yet, a terrible teammate. He is exactly what he has portrayed himself to be: a low class embarrassment. Congrats to Elias, Clemmensen Patrik Elias scored at 2:46 of overtime to give the Devils a 3-2 win at Philadelphia. It was Elias's 15th career regular-season ...
Sean Avery To Enjoy Nice Six-Game Vacation [NHL]
Deadspin —
In case you hadn't heard, Sean Avery's suspension has been downgraded from "forever" to six games—including two already served—meaning Elisha Cuthbert's honor should be safe for the next two weeks or so. More hilarious than the fact that a hockey player has been suspended for dirty talk is that he now has to seek anger management help. Huh? "Mr. Avery has expressed remorse for his recent comments and has sought a professional anger management evaluation," NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said in a league-issued statement. "I will require that he follow through with that process as a condition of his returning to the ...
