Lowell Will Hit the Open Market
Published 11/13/2007 by Ian at SOX & Dawgs
From Nick Cafardo at Extra Bases:
Mike Lowell’s agents and Theo Epstein could not reach an agreement about an hour before the midnight deadline in which the Red Sox had exclusive rights to negotiate with Lowell.
Lowell will now be a complete free-agent and can negotiate with other teams.
Both sides agreed there’s still room for an agreement to be reached and they’ll continue to stay in touch. Lowell will now be able to determine whether there’s a four-year market out there for his services. ...

Lowell now available; should Yanks chase?
Published 11/13/2007 by Peter Abraham at The LoHud Yankees Blog
The Globe says there is no deal for Mike Lowell with Boston. Not yet anyway. He wants four years.
Now he’s on the market and a certain team in the Boogie Down needs a third baseman. But the Yankees should be careful of Lowell.

This is guy is one of the finest people in all of baseball. I’ve known him for 11 years and he’s a great guy. But this is also a guy who went .236/.298/.360 for Florida in 2005. Playing at Fenway Park ...
The Witching Hour
Published 11/13/2007 at Center Field
Midnight has come and gone, without any mention of some crazy, off-the-wall, unexpected miraculous deal. Even though I have always thought there was no way a contract was going to get signed without Mike testing the free agent waters first, I still couldn't help but get hopeful about 10:00 pm that maybe I was wrong, and maybe I'd be shocked by a last-minute breakthrough. Now comes the part ...

What To Offer Mike Lowell?
Published 11/13/2007 by Steve Lombardi at WasWatching.com
Mike Lowell is now on the open market. The Yankees want to talk to him. I've already gone on record on this one - stating that I would be fine with an offer of three years for $33 million with a team option for a fourth.
However, if Lowell is insisting on a guaranteed fourth year, I believe that you have to pass on this one.
If Lowell was willing to split the difference between a guaranteed fourth year and the team having an option - say, making it a player option that goes into effect when certain performance levels are met in the ...
