No surgery for Harden; Cubs pick up his option
Rich Harden will not need surgery on his right shoulder, and the Cubs exercised the $7 million club option on the right-hander for 2009. Harden went 10-2 with a 2.07 ERA for Oakland and the Cubs this season. But a significant decline in his velocity late in the season suggested his shoulder was ailing. Exams today indicated he will not need surgery.
