RUMORS FLY OF NOLAN TO PACKERS

NOLAN CLOSING IN ON PACKERS DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR JOB
ProFootballTalk.com — We reported that other night on rumors of former 49ers coach Mike Nolan putting together a staff, and of speculation in league circles that Nolan will become the Packers’ next defensive coordinator . The Green Bay Press-Gazette reports that Nolan has become the “ clear front-runner ” to replace Bob Sanders. Nolan has 11 years of experience as a defensive coordinator, most recently with the Ravens. “He’s good now.  He’s smart,” an unnamed scout told the Press-Gazette .  “He can run 3-4, 4-3, he knows it all.  It depends on what personnel you have.  He’ll do whatever, morph to whatever.  He’ll use your players to their strengths.  He’s smart that way.”

Mike Nolan as Green Bay defensive coordinator? Very, very interesting
Kawakami — Reports in Green Bay make it clear that Mike Nolan is about to land the Packers defensive coordinator job under Mike McCarthy, who, of course, was Nolan’s first off-coor with the 49ers. All fairly logical: McCarthy is heading into his fourth season, like Nolan was before 2008, and McCarthy needs an experienced hand to fix a broken defense. Nolan is sort of his Mike Martz hire–save my job !–with the difference being that Nolan and McCarthy know each other well (Martz and Nolan did not) and that McCarthy has actually gotten to the playoffs as a head coach, so he isn’t quite dangling by a thread. But one more sub-.500 season might not be too good for Mike. OK, Nolan is also sort of ...

Nolan to Packers Rumors Picking Up
Packerholic — mike-nolan Nolan to Packers Rumors Picking Up What was only a rumor a couple days ago, appears to be gaining steam. The Green Bay Press Gazette now confirms that Mike Nolan is the likely candidate to replace Bob Sanders as the Packers defensive coordinator. If Nolan ends up becoming the Packers defensive coordinator, there are some positives as well as some negatives. The positives of hiring Mike Nolan would be his experience. Nolan has had 11 seasons of experience as a defensive coordinator so he definitely is not new to the game. He has been moderately successful in the past and hopefully that could continue in Green Bay. I really can’t blame McCarthy if he decides to go the ...

It's Looking Like Nolan
The Bucky Channel - The World of Sports from Wisconsin's Perspective. — Mike Nolan gave Mike McCarthy the opportunity to be on his coaching staff back in 2005. Four years later, it looks like McCarthy is ready to give the same chance to Mike Nolan. Nothing is official quite yet, but all signs are pointing to Mike Nolan becoming the defensive coordinator for the Packers. Per the glory and goodness that is the Green Bay Press-Gazette: Two NFL sources said Tuesday that coach Mike McCarthy appears likely to bring in Nolan to replace Bob Sanders, whose firing was announced Monday. One source said word at the Cactus Bowl, the all-star game for Division II seniors in Kingsville, Texas, is the move is all but done. Another said ...

More Mike Nolan Rumors
Acme Packing Company — According to various sources, it's gonna happen. Former 49ers head coach will be the Packers new defensive coordinator. Although Nolan's recent teams in San Francisco and Baltimore (as defensive coordinator from 2002-2004) ran a 3-4 defense, they would probably keep the 4-3 scheme because the current roster is better suited to it: “He’s good now. He’s smart,” said the scout who’s familiar with Nolan. “He can run 3-4, 4-3, he knows it all. It depends on what personnel you have. ...
