A's reliever available
Published 12/13/2007 by Ed Ryan at Mets Fever
The Oakland A's have decided to non-tender right handed reliever Kiki Calero. The 33 y/o veteran reliever struggled last year with nagging shoulder injuries. He came into the league with the Cardinals and posted two years of under 3 ERA in the National league. The last three years have been with the A's in which his numbers were solid for the American league. In a five year career his lifetime ERA 3.55 with a record of 12-10. Here's a list of the non-tenders so far tonight. ...
First Round of Non-tenders In
Published 12/13/2007 by Kujo at Rockin' the Red
As of 10:37 PM Wednesday night, the non-tender list is looking pretty interesting. Although no Aaron Miles has showed up yet, the names being cut should definitely be on the Cardinals radar: SS Adam Everett, 3B Dallas McPherson, SP Chad Durbin, OF Kevin Mench, SP Mark Hendrickson, SP/RP Mark Prior, SP Heath Phillips, SP/RP Jack Cassel, RP Kiko Calero, and 3B Morgan Ensberg. The Cards have a chance to reclaim 1/3 of their deal with Oakland by signing Kiko; too bad Daric Barton wasn't up for grabs. Dallas McPherson could end up being the next best thing to my calls for Andy ...

Otsuka non-tendered?
Published 12/13/2007 by Adam J. Morris <info@lonestarball.com> at Lone Star Ball: Front Page Posts
mlb.com's list of players non-tendered today includes Akinori Otsuka of the Rangers. Pretty surprising news, if this is the case. He's had arm problems, but the most recent reports seemed to indicate that he was back throwing and would be ready to go this spring.
More Non-Tendery Goodness

Additions to the MLB non-tender list are trickling in. Here's what we've got so far: American League Angels Dallas McPherson, 3B - Formerly a "can't miss" prospect, McPherson's stock has fallen incredibly after failing to establish himself in limited playing time with the Angels in parts of 2005 and 2006. He underwent back surgery last January and missed all of the 2007 season. Nevertheless, he is still just 27, is a career .301/.381/.578 hitter in 481 minor league games, and he showed decent power in the bigs, notching 39 extra-base hits in 384 plate appearances. I would definitely bring him on and see if he can get healthy ...

Best Of The Non-Tenders
Published 12/13/2007 by Tim Dierkes at MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com
Here's MLB.com's official list of all the players who were non-tendered. These players are all free agents now. Any interesting names?
Josh Towers can at least eat innings for someone. He'll be 31 in February. His control is incredible, but in turn he's very hittable. Throw him in a big NL park with a strong defense, he could post a sub-4.00 ...
Several Relievers non-tendered
Published 12/13/2007 by Ed Ryan at Mets Fever
Last night as news of players being non-tendered, that seemed like possible matches for the Mets I posted them; Durbin, Hendrickson, Brown, Calero, and Prior. Later in the night as the deadline passed several relievers became available. Akinori Otsuka was non-tendered by Texas, last year numerous teams pursued Otsuka at the trade deadline including the Mets. But an ...
Dumpster Diving

Dumpster Diving No, I’m not talking about Rosie O’Donnell’s favorite pastime. I am talking about what Phillies GM Pat Gillick should be doing now that there are non-tendered players out there, waiting to be plucked up by another team. I mean, look at this list ! I think these guys might be better than the actual free agent market! I’d like to highlight a few of the players on that list the Phillies should be interested in picking up. Dallas McPherson Formerly a top prospect, third baseman Dallas McPherson battled injuries in 2007 and never caught fire in the Major Leagues in his 360 at-bats between 2004 and 2006. The Phillies, having just traded “third baseman of the ...
High-flying Rangers sign rock star

The signing of reliever Kukumori is official. The non-tendering of Aki Otsuka is official. Means two things: this is C.J. Wilson's closer spot to lose; and if the San Diego/Chris Young trade wasn't a disaster before this, it definitely is now. Finished also is a trade for Mariners first baseman Ben Broussard. Not ...

Before we move on to a discussion of all those non-tendered players now flooding the free-agent market, please enjoy this video.
I had to share.
Last night several clubs cut players loose rather than offer arbitration. (The pre-free agency kind of arbitration, not the kind that Pedro Feliz was offered.)
There are several intriguing names, including Mark Prior. Who knows if he’ll ever be healthy again, but no doubt several teams are willing to spend several million dollars to find out.
Topping the position player list is Morgan Ensberg. At his best he had both power and patience. At his worst, he ...

Astros Interested In Prior

According to Brian McTaggart of the Houston Chronicle, the Astros have contacted Mark Prior's agent. That changed at some point - he's with John Boggs ...
Non-tendered Free Agents
Published 12/14/2007 by The GM at Arin It Out
Now that the deadline for teams to workout last minutes deals with their players has passed, it is time for me to take a look at who can help out my Oakland Athletics.
* Dallas McPherson - This is a kid that the Angels organization had high hopes for when he first came up. Things haven't quite panned out for him like everyone had hoped. I think he could be a nice bench player for this team. Who knows, he might just relax a little and get back to playing baseball at a high level.
* Willie Harris - I was surprised to see Atlanta let the young center fielder go after they let Andruw Jones go as ...
Detroit's Fishing For Yet Another Florida Marlin
Published 12/15/2007 by Ian Casselberry <info@blessyouboys.com> at Bless You Boys: Front Page Posts
With Mike Rabelo among the six players that went to Florida in the Miguel Cabrera-Dontrelle Willis trade, and Vance Wilson likely out until at least Spring Training, the Detroit Tigers could be in need of a new back-up catcher. And to their possible good fortune, two notable catchers, Miguel Olivo and Johnny Estrada, ended up on the list of non-tendered players this week. But since it's apparently become trendy for ex-Marlins to migrate up north to Detroit, it's the Florida guy that the Tigers are interested in. In today's Freep, Jon Paul Morosi reported that the team got in touch with Miguel Olivo's agent soon after he ...
