 Number Change Links11
I know I mentioned in the Q&A that I wasn’t planning on changing my number. Well that has changed. A number change is in the works. Not sure exactly what it is going to be yet, but I thought I would throw it out there. Also, I saw a few comments about me being an Alton Brown fan, so I thought I’d come right out and say it. I can’t get enough Food Network! ... [link]

Hughes to change his number
Published 1/31/2008 by Andrew Fletcher at Scott Proctor's Arm - A New York Yankees Blog
Phil Hughes, now safe from the swirling trade winds, informs us that he is planning on changing his uniform number, which is currently No. 65. He has said in the past that he likes numbers that end in five. However, the selection of numbers that fit that criteria are rather slim with the Yankees. Jason Giambi (No. 25), Mike Mussina (No. 35) and Carl Pavano (No. 45) are in the last year of their contracts. Hideki Matsui (No. 55) has two years remaining. I wonder which ...

Hughes To Follow Pavano?
Published 1/31/2008 by WW Staff at WasWatching.com
Phil Hughes is hinting that he's up for a change in uniform number. Reportedly, Hughes "wears 65 because he wanted to wear a number ending in five, and every lower number ending in five was taken or retired" on the Yankees. Hmmm, when you add this up, it sounds like Phil is going after Carl Pavano's #45. The last 5 Yankees pitchers to wear #45 have been: Jason Anderson, Felix Heredia, Armando Benitez, Felix Heredia and Carl Pavano. It's not exactly a recent good luck number for Yankees pitchers. If it's true that Hughes is going for #45, I ...

... earlier in the month of January for more depth at first base. I guess the Yankees are really making this 1B position a priority. Now Ensberg will have to compete for that 1B position spot with Jason Giambi , Shelley Duncan , Wilson Betemit , and Jason Lane. Also today, Yankees RHP Phil Hughes revealed on his blog (which I had a chance to read this entry) that he would like to change his uniform number . His current number is #65. I really hope nobody bought his jersey just yet. Hughes did mention he likes numbers that end in five. Now that's slim with the Yankees unless ...

Odds and Ends

The Yankees added Morgan Ensberg to the 1B mix. The minor league deal is good news for Yankee fans, bad news for Shelley Duncan (who hit .245/.305/.434 after his first week in the league). The NY Times has a can't miss piece on Brian Cashman. Phil Franchise is changing his uniform number. What number do you think Phil should ask for? 19 makes a lot of sense, but for a while the Yanks were working a 2 into all of the homegrown uniforms and I liked that. 2 is Jeter, 12 is available. 20 is Jorge, 21 I'm still holding out ...

Another Prospect List, Phil Hughes, Big Day

Kevin Whelan Albaladejo is an interesting addition here. Its hard to argue with a reliever with his kind of ridiculous control. At the very least, that’ll make him effective at the major league level. -  Phil Hughes is a fan of Alton Brown. I couldn’t ask for a better televised-mentor for a young ...

Real baseball is close... we promise

... bad. It's an extremely interesting idea, and a fairly solid business concept. We think this will be revisited, either by Newsom or another minor leaguer with some business savvy. Phil Hughes checks in and says he's heading to Daytona Beach this weekend with Shelley Duncan and Ian Kennedy to experience NASCAR's Budweiser Shootout as a guest of Michael Waltrip. That sentence is one sentence more than we ever hoped to write about NASCAR in this space. Hughes plans to ditch his #65 jersey next season, in favor of what will most likely be, ...
