Baltimore Sun: O’s fans pay homage to Wild Bill Hagy Wild Bill...remembered. I found some guys who certainly do believe, and they weren’t wearing those beards to hide their identities. (Hey, it’s not always easy being an Orioles fan.) They were paying tribute to an iconic figure: Wild Bill Hagy, he of the straw hat, the scruffy beard and the pony keg gut. You Can't Sit Down

... all right. I wouldn't remember Doc's eleventh Shea start so fondly if it weren't for what Dennis began doing at the outset of '84, for the passion he unleashed in the rest of us. That's why you can't tell the story of a stadium via only its ballplayers. That's why sometimes, at the risk of being rude, you just can't sit down, no matter what the guy behind you says. Another tale of another fan of another team from another ballpark in another time, very much worth reading here.

Open Thread: Game Nineteen; The Brutal Road Trip Begins…

Well, I should be headed to dreamland soon, but we have baseball to be played at the top of the hour, and no I will not be awake to watch it. The Orioles start a long road trip out west with starts in Seattle and then thy fly to Chicago. They come home next week to face the Rays, and then head out again to Anaheim, Oakland and then Kansas City. Painful. Will this kill the run? Again, ...
