Oakland Athletics : The Drumbeat : Dan Johnson designated Links4
From Chronicle Staff Writer Susan Slusser in Toronto Quick note: Dan Johnson's agent, Bobby Barad, tells me that the A's have just informed the first baseman that he has been designated for assignment. That means they have 10 days to put Johnson on waivers, trade him or release him. The latter two are unlikely, and Johnson would have to clear waivers to be sent down. That's a process that ... Dan Johnson DFAed

A's DFA Dan Johnson
Published 4/9/2008 by Rob at 6-4-2 — an Angels/Dodgers double play blog
Susan Slusser writes that the A's have DFA'd 1B Dan Johnson, in order to make room for pitcher Greg Smith on the 25-man. Johnson has had one-at bat since the start of the season.

Johnson is a victim both of the A's roster crunch -- they needed to make room for tonight's emergency starter, Greg Smith, on the 40-man -- and the apparent indifference to his presence by Bob Geren (one at-bat through the first eight games of the season). Dan Johnson DFA’d by Oakland
Published 4/9/2008 by David Golebiewski at The Transaction Guy
Dan Johnson was caught in a tough situation in Oakland. With top prospect Daric Barton entrenched at first base and Three True Outcomes  star Jack Cust splitting time at DH with Mike Sweeney, Johnson was gathering dust on the bench. The lefty hitter received a grand total of 1 AB with the A’s in the early portion of the 2008 season. It comes as little surprise, then, that the Athletics have designated Johnson for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for lefty Greg Smith. Johnson, 28, was originally selected by the A’s out of the University of Nebraska in the 7th round of the 2001 amateur draft. The former Cornhusker has a ...

Kindred Spirits

Man, it feels good to be back in Canada. I really appreciate these opportunities to pitch on my home soil. The Doc said to take it easy, but my last two starts went really well. Whatever, I'm just ...
