Both the Portland Trail Blazers and the Los Angeles Lakers surpassed expectations last season and with both teams expecting returns from their young stars this upcoming season, their goals are even higher.
Last year, the two highly touted prospects suffered untimely knee surgeries that prematurely ended their seasons—in Greg's case before it ever got underway.

Ryne Nelson Born just three months apart, I can see these guys having epice battles their entire careers. First off, let me say I love both these centers. The NBA is in good hands with these guys. Bynum will never be an offensive force - which would ultimately put him 'below' Oden...but I'm just biased.

mysportsrumors I agree, because of offense Oden is going to be more star of the two. But these should be some great battles in the post the next few years. If Bynum develops an offensive game, and can steal some shots from Kobe thou watch out.

Points in the Paint Oden will have the bigger impact coming into this season, but that's more a result of whom both these guys are playing alongside of. The Blazers missed a C more.
I like the thought of potentially seeing both of them do battle and become rivals of sorts. I do, however, think that Bynum has the potential to develop into a 20-10-2 guy in the future.
As I recall, Dwight Howard didn't start off his career with a solid offensive game as well. Three years down the road and look at him now.
